05/29/16 20:16 Basco is an all- black and white American Staffordshire that appears to be 1 year old. The dog was found tied to a pole with no owner around. The finder approached the dog and he allowed being petted and jumped up in excitement. Finder stated that he was introduced to his other male dog but there was pet conflict. Basco was tense and growl at the other dog. They were kept in separate rooms. During intake Basco came up to counselor and slowly sniffed. He allowed to be petted and collard. He stood still to be collard and scanned. He was friendly and playful.

Basco came into the shelter as a stray, so his past behaviors in a home are unknown. Upon intake it was reported Basco was friendly, and allowed all handling. During SAFER Basco came into the assessment room, loose and friendly he was social toward the assessor. Basco allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Basco was relaxed during the tag interaction, and during the resource portion of the assessment Basco was easy to handle when engaged with the item. Basco appears to be sociable, and did not display any behavior concerns, so the department feels he can be suitable for an “Average” adopter. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft with soft and loose body, opened mouth. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze 2:1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Toy: 1. Minimal interest in Toy, dog smells ,then turns away. Dog-Dog:Basco was surrendered as a stray but his finder stated that Basco was introduced to his other male dog but there was pet conflict. Basco was tense and growl at the other dog. They were kept in separate rooms. When off leash with other dogs, Basco was used as a greeter dog. He displayed soft body language throughout all interactions. He was very tolerant of dogs continually soliciting him to play and would run away with any sign of aggression from the other dog.

They were kept in separate rooms. 5/31: When off leash with other dogs, Basco was used as a greeter dog. He displayed soft body language throughout all interactions. He was very tolerant of dogs continually soliciting him to play and would run away with any sign of aggression from the other dog. He was used as a greeter dog and displayed soft body language when meeting new dogs. He has appropriately socialized in a group with both males and females. 6/1: Basco displayed the same soft and tolerant behavior while being used as a greeter dog and in a group of males and females.
