02/18/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
02/18/16 19:05 Rocky A1065491 and Balboa A1065491 are brothers. They are both 2 year old AMPT. They are being surrendered because the owner is no longer allowed to have both in the home. He recieved them both from a breeder 2 years ago. They have not been to the vet and they have no known health issues. Socialization Rocky and Balboa are brothers and have never been separted or away from each other. They are very friendly and outgoing with strangers. They lived in a home with small children and played well with them. They get very excited when they hear or see other dogs. They play exuberantly with each other and are very vocal when they play. (growl, jump and mouth eachothers faces.) They have not been around cats. They have not bitten anyone or any other animal. Behavior Rocky and Balboa are always walked together 2 or 3 times a day. They love to go to the dog run and play with eachother and other dogs. They enjoy baths and being hosed down in the street. They are well trained and according to the owner, allow to have their food bowl, treats, and toys taken away from them, even by the children in the home. For a new family to know Rocky and Balboa are described as friendly and playful. They may appear big but are cuddlly and affcetionate. The owners favorite thing about them is that they are good listeners and are protective. They slept together in a big crate. They were fed pedigree dry dog food. They pull hard on the leash. They know how to sit, or put it down, stay and stop. Behavior during intake Rocky and Balboa were brought in together by the owner, on two big metal leashes. They sat down when told to do so and waited patiently. When they both heard dogs barking, they both began to vocalize and cry out at the same time. When they became overly excited, they redirected to each other and began to growl and mouth at eachothers faces. I asked if they were fighting and the owner said “No, thats how they play together all the time.” They were leashed one at a time, and cried for eachother. They were scanned(-), collared and transferred into separate kennels by the owner.

02/20/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Balboa pulls hard on the leash. When he enters the room he starts to grab at the leash, pulling and growling. The behavior team was unable to do the assessment on Balboa due to this intense fixation on tugging at the leash. He becomes aroused he is slow to de-escalate, and sometimes requires intervention to help redirect him to more appropriate behaviors. On walks Balboa barks and growls in a frustrated manner at other dogs that he sees in the hallway. Balboa was surrendered to us. His previous family describes him as friendly and playful. Balboa was surrendered with his housemate Rocky. Both are described as friendly and outgoing with strangers. They lived in a home with small children and played well with them. They get very excited when they hear or see other dogs. They play exuberantly with each other and are very vocal when they play. (Growl, jump and mouth each other’s face.) They have not been around cats. They love to go to the dog run and play with each other and other dogs. According to the owner, allow to have their food bowl, treats, and toys taken away from them, even by the children in the home. Balboa appears to be a high-energy dog that will likely do best with an adopter prepared to provide mental and physical stimulation and appropriate outlets for his energy. The behavior department feels that he would do best if placed with a New Hope partner who can follow up on this behavior in a more stable environment and can provide any necessary behavior modification before placement into a permanent home. Playgroup Notes: When off leash with other dogs Balboa is a bit sexually motivated. He is tolerant of puppy play but does not engage.

02/19/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Balboa has mostly displayed sexually motivated behavior during off leash socializiation. He is tolerant of play but has not yet engaged. Balboa arrived into our care with another dog, and his previous owner reports that “They play exuberantly with each other and are very vocal when they play”. Based on the observations made on Balboa, the behavior department recommends a pre-adoption interaction, as well as allowing Balboa time to decompress in a new home environment, before immediate placement into a home with other dogs. When off leash with other dogs Balboa is a bit sexually motivated. He is tolerant of puppy play but does not engage. 2/20 update: Balboa, again, is sexually motivated. He is not offered correction, but he does not cease when then female is clearly uncomfortable.
