11/20/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: N/A Unaltered, Stray SAFER ASSESSMENT: 11/19/16 Toy: 5. Dog bares teeth at the assessor. Summary: Upon entering the assessment room, Bailey displayed no social behavior and actively avoided his handlers. Bailey became stiff when attempting to pet him; because of level of discomfort displayed, all handling portions of the assessment were skipped. Bailey may benefit best from placement with a New Hope placement partner. PLAYGROUP: Bailey was surrendered as a stray so his past behavior around dogs is unknown. When off leash with dogs at the Care Center, Bailey displays soft body language as he greets a novel female dog. He is social, checking in on her often as he explores the pen. He is tolerant of her face to face greetings. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 11/19/16 During his medical examination, Bailey did not tolerate/allow handling; attempted to snap at his handler. ENERGY LEVEL: RECOMMENDATIONS: New Hope Only _X_No children (under 13) _X_Place with a New Hope partner (Bailey has attempted to snap multiple times during his stay at our care centers, for this reason, we believe Bailey would benefit best from placement with a New Hope rescue group who can further assess this behavior in a stable environment.) Potential challenges: _X_Fearful/potential for defensive aggression (Bailey has displayed fearful/defensive behavior during his stay at our care centers, tolerating very minimal handling; any form of direct touch may result in a fearful bite. It is recommended that Bailey be allowed a proper time to decompress to aid in acclimating him to a new environment. Force-free, reward based training is advised when introducing/exposing Bailey to new and unfamiliar situations.)
