Baguette
Hello, my name is Baguette. My animal id is #9826. I am a desexed female gray dog at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 4 years 1 weeks old.
I came into the shelter as a stray on 15-Oct-2017.
Let’s get to know each other a bit more…
A volunteer writes: I always felt drawn to Baguette even that she was not within our Manhattan Care Center walls. Her picture and her pretty French name were stuck in my head….I got my chance to meet her yesterday as she was spending the night with us and I was not disappointed… Baguette is a really pretty grey mouse, just the right size and weight, so easy to be with, cool with dogs passing her by and mostly so affectionate. I barely sat on the yard bench that she was on my lap for caresses, tail wagging away and a big smile on her face. She does explore the yard, is curious of her peers in the adjacent pens but seems to prefer to stay by my side for comfort. She can sit on command, runs after a ball that she does not retrieve, poses for pictures like a model and was all content to rest on her night bed with the rawhide I gave her. I do not know anything about her except that I feel good about her and hope with all my heart that she will land a wonderful home and family. Baguette is waiting to start her new life with you…
My medical notes are…

Summary (1):: When off leash at the Care Center, Baguette is anxious and paces the pens. She becomes social as her session continues, and engages in bouncy play, and spin around. Baguette was brought in as a stray so her behavior around other dogs is unknown. The Behavior Department recommends that Baguette be placed in a home with resident dogs that are respectful, and match her gentle play style. 10/16: Baguette displays anxious posturing, whining and panting throughout the session. She is social with the novel male and towards the end of the session she solicits play with spins and bounces. 10/17-19: Baguette is unsure, at first, when greeting a gentle player, but she eventually reciprocates play solicitations. She is tolerant of the other dogs body contacts, and offers him quick spin around.

Date of initial:: 10/16/2017

ENERGY LEVEL:: We have no history on Baguette so we cannot be certain of her behavior in a home environment. However, she is a young, enthusiastic, social dog who will need daily mental and physical activity to keep her engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in additional to physical exercise, to positively direct her energy and enthusiasm.
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:: AVERAGE (suitable for an adopter with an average amount of dog experience)
Behavior Asilomar: H – Healthy
Potential challenges: : Anxiety
Potential challenges comments:: Anxiety-Baguette has shown some signs of potential anxiety in the care center, vocalizing (whining, panting) continually through the SAFER. This behavior was reported at intake, and we have no known history on Baguette, so we cannot be certain whether similar behavior will be seen in a future home environment.
