03/12/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Oh baby, baby, baby. This cute as a button little fellow in his caramel color coat has the sweetest little face on the planet. Expressive eyes that alternate between showing love and mischief, Baby looks up as I take some pictures, tail wagging as he eyes the treat in my hand. He’s likely housetrained (but as a puppy may need some reinforcement of this skill), good on the leash, snuggly, kissy and hungry for treats. His tail never stops wagging as we walk and he’s ready to meet everyone that wants to meet him. He can be a bit mouthy in play but he’s only a puppy, so he needs all the positive reinforcement training that comes with being a puppy parent. Baby has all the makings of a terrific grown up companion, and just needs you to guide him along the way. Puppies aren’t for everyone, but if you have the love and patience, he’s hoping you’ll stop by to meet him today.
03/10/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Baby pulls a bit on the leash. He was excited but very interested in interacting with handler during assessment – jumped up, Mouthy (light). He was overexcited during handling, jumping up, mouthy and was hard to position, but showed no aggression. Baby was distracted, focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag test. He was not interest in toys. Baby appears to be a high-energy dog that will likely do best with an adopter prepared to provide mental and physical stimulation and appropriate outlets for his energy. The behavior department feels that he can go to an experienced adopter who can follow up on this behavior. We also recommend a home without young children; older children can be considered pending interaction. Look: 3. Dog jumps on the Assessor, consistently rubs his shoulder on the Assessor, and will not allow Assessor to conduct the assessment. Sensitivity: 2. Dog displays high energy and movement, but it is directed toward getting closer to the Assessor. His body is soft, likely panting, may jump up between attempts to lick Assessor. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (may need coaxing to approach.) He is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Toy: 1. No interest. Playgroup Notes: When off leash with other dogs, Baby greets and sniffs briefly, then tries to mount the female greeter
03/09/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
***Baby is a playgroup greeter dog*** Baby engages in running play with males and females, sometimes mounting during play. The behavior department recommends that Baby may be placed into a home with another playful dog. He arrived into our care as a stray so in-home behavior around dogs remains unknown. When off leash with other dogs, Baby greets and sniffs briefly, then tries to mount the female greeter. 3/10 update: Baby greets and engages in a bit of running with males and females. He then mounts and gets mounted by a male dog. 3/11 update: Baby continues to engage in some running with males and females then, again, engages in mounting play with the male. 3/13 update: Baby engages in soft play with another playful dog, but does eventually attempt to mount during play. 3/14 update: Baby continues to engage in play with males and females. 3/15 update: Baby continues to engage in play, often mounting during. 3/16 update: Baby continues to display the above behavior. 3/17 update: Baby engages in rough, mouthy play. He continues to mount males and females.
