01/05/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
1/5/16 18:10 Basic information: Baby is a 12 yr. old spayed female Am Pit Bull mix. The Owner got her from a friend as a gift; she has owned Baby for over 10 yrs. The owner surrendered Baby because of the landlord not allowing dogs in the apartment. Baby has no health problem and was last taken to a vet in March of 2015. Socialization: Around strangers Baby is friendly. Baby has lived with children between the ages of 2 and 16 years old, she is relaxed around children and adults he does not know. Baby does not like to be around other dogs and usually does not interact with other dogs. Baby has never bitten anyone. Behavior: The owner stats that Baby is not bothered when some moves her food or treats while she is eating, when someone takes her toys away or when someone disturbs her while sleeping. Baby likes to be brushed, however she is nervous when given bathes or having her nails trimmed. When an unfamiliar person or animal approaches a family member or her home she will bark at them for a while until she feels comfortable around the person. The owner says that Baby is scared of loud noises such as storms or fireworks and will often hide from the noise. For a new family to know: The owner describes Baby as friendly and affectionate with a medium activity level. Her favorite activity is to play Tug of war his owner. In the home Baby tends to follow the owner around the house and is kept mainly indoors. Baby sleeps in the floor of the bedroom on a large dog bed. Baby was fed Kirkland dry dog food two times a day. She is house trained and has never had an accident in the home, when outside she goes to the bathroom on or around trees and grass. Baby knows the commands “sit ” “stay” “shake” “Down “and “Come”. For exercise Baby is used to brisk walks on the leash and three times a day and does not pull on the leash. She is allowed to play off the leash in the dog park sometimes, she prefers to stay close to the owner’s side when off the leash. Behavior during intake: Baby was relaxed with lose body, when approached by staff. Baby allowed us to scan (+), collared, pictured and placed in dog kennel.
01/10/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: No one puts Baby in a corner, but a sad owner with landlord issues had to put this amazing Baby in the shelter. She is gorgeously trained, has lived with kids 2-16 years old, and according to her former owner, is great with sharing food, treats and the couch. And you will want to share a couch with her, let us assure you. If we didn’t know her age (she’s no baby) we would never believe it; she is stunning, spritely and has no health issues per her former owner. There’s nothing not to love about Baby, except the situation she finds herself in now. Please, won’t you consider offering her the shelter of your home so she might move out of her current crib? Another volunteer writes: Baby barks in her kennel. Until she joined us, few days ago, she did not know what it was…to be housed for so many hours between tight walls…She ran free in her home, slept on the floor of the bedroom on a large dog bed, went out for walks few times a day, and played with the many children of the house…She is baffled and upset, so rightly. There is no return as the landlord said: “No more big dog !”. I get a smile when Baby sees my leash and off we go for the great outdoors. Relieving herself is a priority, then a nice walk at a good pace. Baby does not seem to mind to near other dogs but if they come forward, she will bark. Her former owner related the same to us. Baby sits on command and for treats. She loves to eat and yet, she has such a beautiful figure…She has been outstandingly cared for by her family and looks like she is coming from a grooming salon. True, she does not look at all her age. Only her cloudy eyes tell us otherwise. Baby is clearly lost and not willing to yield. She had “the world” with her loved ones and now…this….No, it can not be…..She comes briefly when I call her, accepts a caress then walks away. Treats, she will take politely and even demand. I think she is a bit opinionated , a normal trait for an older family dog. Baby is a proud gal who knew and gave back love. She was a respected pet. She will not settle for less… Baby might be 12, but she is in tip top shape. A great friend she will still be if you give her the chance to love and be loved again. Baby is at the Manhattan Care Center

When off leash with other dogs, Baby is tense and uncomortable with greeting and barks at the helper dog when he comes within close proximity, giving him clear “back off” signs to keep him at a distance.
