02/24/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Whoever picked that name..Azucar..was right on the money.. Sugar, Sweetness, this is exactly all what Azucar is.. Spending time with her is a real blessing. Azucar is calm, gentle, welcoming and so well mannered. She is so easy to walk in the street, walking right at my pace, house trained and no problem meeting other dogs. She likes them very much. I was told that in playgroups with her peers, she was a great participant. Free in a pen, Azucar sticks around me, wagging her tail non stop and wiggling her butt each time she sees a staff, a volunteer or a dog…She does not mind a pooch growling at her, still wags her tail and moves on…Azucar likes food and treats but will take them politely from my hand. She enjoys caresses and will settle right next to me, posing her head in my lap for bonding time. Azucar is a very sweet dog , a poster child for Family Dog. I can see her with kids and other dogs…mingling peacefully among her humans, comforting a child, playing with a ball and sharing cookies…Azucar will need veterinary care to assess the alopecia affecting her coat, may be a better diet than the one she received until now…Please, look beyond her patchy coat, see the wonderful gal that could be yours to cherish for ever. Lovely Azucar is at the Manhattan Care Center, waiting to be yours. Another volunteer writes: Azucar is the right name for her. Her name means Sugar in Spanish, this girl is so sweet and easy going, I couldn’t agree more. Even with an angry barking dog in the next cage she sits so sweetly wagging her tail so politely, I have to skip the angry dog and bring her first for her good manners. Easy on her walk, she goes potty right when we walk outside because she is well house trained. She looks at you with these eyes, almost like she is a very intelligent human telling you a story. She is full bodied but needs some good nourishment to help with her fur. Easy back into her cage she gets some nice cuddles from me. Turns out her good behavior taught her angry dog neighbor, a lesson, and he followed in her good behavior to get his deserved walk after all. Not only is she a happy easy dog, but she can teach another dog a thing or two about good manners. What a good pet!
