A volunteer writes:
Little Audi, a puppy body with a grown up disposition. He lays patiently in his kennel splayed out with his nose at the front. He looks surprised to see me approach him, “Really me? You want to meet me?”. I definitely do, he slowly sits up and takes some turkey with growing enthusiasm. He decides I’m okay and off we go. He’s a bit nervous with the chaotic environment of the shelter, but follows behind me like a lost child. Out on the street he is quite overwhelmed. Each time he pauses unsure, I try reassuring him with a outstretched hand and he sniffs and bumps my fingers before following along with me. The hectic nyc street is too much for him so we head to the backyard and quite a different little boy emerges. He eagerly takes my treats and a after a minute or two, slowly picks up his paw and places it on my knee, then the other one and slowly places his chest and head against me. He’s just a baby, and all he wanted was some reassurance and love. He huddles against me leaning into my hand petting him as if it’s the most wonderful sensation in the whole world. He picks up his head and I lean forward and his tongue slips off and give me a kiss. Wahoo! He leans his head into mine and we share a moment, I wish I could take him home and give him all the cuddles he desires. Sweet little Audi, is a young puppy with a mature personality, he has a special soul, with a incredibly brave heart, with time and patience perhaps you could show him what it means to be a puppy again. I imagine he’d be the most loyal friend in the world, so come meet Audi at the Manhattan Care Center and feel your heart melt for this affectionate little boy!
Another volunteer writes: What a difference a day makes! I’m happy to say that Audi’s serious demeanor lapsed whilst I was with him and I got to see a brave, playful, and gentle young little pup. Waiting as usual splayed out in his kennel nose at the kennel door, he still seems surprised to see me stop by him, “Really, you want to meet me again?”. I definitely still do! He hops out eagerly and we head off to the backyard. Upon entering the pen I toss in a couple balls but when I remove the leash I have a shadow. I know what he wants and when I set down he slowly picks up a paw and puts it in my knee and then the next one and he burrows his head into my chest, I give him a hug back, it’s impossible not too. Again, he leans into my hand like its the best thing in the world. He’s so polite, sweet, and respectful, yet dying for some love, it’s sad and wonderful at the same time. After he gets his cuddling quota, he gives me a kiss. I grab a ball and wahoo! It’s playtime! I toss the ball and on no! A challenge, should he chase the ball or stay by my side, how to decide?! I provide a ultimatum, I run to the ball with him, and game on! Each time I throw the ball, he wiggles and playbows like a puppy but looks to the ball, then looks at me, then back to the ball, when I run over he is my shadow. A dog distracts him and he politely sniffs the other pooch through the gate, but is instantly back to my side after just quietly calling his name. He stands up to give me a hug, and is so polite he doesn’t jump or scrabble his paws and nails against me(like some puppies). I take his paws and we do a little waltz, he’s a excellent dance partner. Shadow is my nickname now for Audi. A incredible puppy, Audi has everything, maturity, eagerness to learn and heart as big and bright as the sun, come meet him at the Manhattan Care Center and you will receive endless hugs and a loyal partner for many years to come!
