12/24/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: An interesting name choice for this gorgeous dog, as his body is a bit of a map to his past. He has what looks like old and now healed pressure sores on his hips and something on the top of his head. Whatever caused it is now a thing of the past, as his coat is soft and shiny, clean and cared for. He was so quiet in his kennel, and I couldn’t resist his handsome face, so out we go. Using the facilities as soon as we were out the door tells me he may be housetrained. Atlas pulls on the leash so will benefit from a harness and/or some leash training, but once in the park he doesn’t mind being tethered for photos and poses like a pro. Off leash he comes when called, tail wagging, takes treats gently, plays briefly with a toy, but it’s snuggling and kissing that are clearly his favorite things. Atlas loves treats so will learn new things with positive reward based training. He’s smart and alert, happy to make new friends who are gentle and give him time to warm up a bit. Atlas also wanted me to be sure to tell you that he prefers not to share his new person with another dog as he likes to feel all the love. If you’re the gentle person to provide the next stop for Atlas, he’s looking forward to meeting you.

12/22/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Atlas is tense and uncomfortable with other dogs and often begins to bark growl and lunge at them (as well as handlers) through a barrier. He arrived at the care center as a stray, so any in-home behaviors are unknown. Due to safety concerns Atlas is no longer a candidate for off-leash socialization, and the behavior department cautions on placing Atlas into a home with other dogs at this time. 12/22: When introduced off leash to other dogs in the care center, Atlas is slightly tense upon approach. He sniffs the rear of the female dog. He walks away when offered correction by the female dog. 12/23: Atlas is tense when greeting and is a bit sexually motivated. He offers a loud growl if mounted by a female. He is uncomfortable with handlers in the yard and will growl/hard bark at any that approach.
