MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 5/18/17 During his initial medical exam, Atlantis was calm and allowed handling. ENERGY LEVEL: We have no history on Atlantis so we cannot be certain of his behavior in a home environment. In the care center, Atlantis displays as having a medium energy level.
RECOMMENDATIONS: New Hope Partner _X_No children (under 13) – Atlantis appears to growl unprovoked. For these reasons we advise against a home with children at this time. We cannot be certain if this behavior will be seen in a home environment. _X_Place with a New Hope partner – The behavior department recommends Atlantis be placed with a New Hope partner who is able to provide an experienced adult-only foster home. A period of decompression is recommended to allow Atlantis to acclimate comfortably to his new environment. Force-free, reward based training only is advised when introducing Atlantis to new and unfamiliar situations. Potential challenges: _X_Resource guarding – Atlantis bit the hand during Toy portion of assessment. For this reason we advise against ever removing items from Atlantis’ possession without safely trading for an item of greater or equal value. We cannot be certain whether any guarding or possessive behavior may appear in a home environment. _X_Fearful/potential for defensive aggression – Atlantis bit a stranger who put their fingers in his kennel while at the care center, breaking skin. It is important to make sure Atlantis stays under threshold and is not pushed to escalate into a bite when he is giving clear warnings of being uncomfortable (growling).
