09/09/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
09/09/16 16:32 Athena is a white and brown brindle female year old American Pitbull terrier. She was surrendered by her owner due to owner moving into a facility that does not accept pets. She was a gift from a family friend and was wih her owner since she was a feew months old. Athena has lived with two adults and a yorkie. She is described as shy around strangers and takes several minutes to warm up to new people. She will engage in gentle play once she gets to know the adult. She has spent time with a child age two and is described as relaxed and playful. Around the yorkie she is tolerant and will engage in exuberant play. She has not been around cats. Athena is not housetrained and will defecate and urinate indoors. She was walked twice a day. She will destroy shoes and any items left out. Athena does not mind when her food is touched or when a treat is taken away. She will playfully growl and try to play tug when a toy is taken away. She is fearful when bathed and when her nails are trimmed, she will struggle and wiggly away. Athena has a high activity level and likes to play with squeaky toys and chew bones. She likes to play fetch and tug. She has been kept only indoors and eats dry food and is a cup of dry food four times a day. She knows the commands sit, stay and come. She pulls lightly on leash and when off leash will wander off but will come back when called. Upon intake Athena was tense and retreated behind owner. Cousnelor proceeded slowly and was able to collar, scan and photograph. She was receptive to treats.
09/19/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Athena is a lanky goddess of a dog! She is said to be a little shy with strangers, but I think the secret to her heart is treats and toys. She eagerly sits for the former and can barely contain her excitement for the latter! She is a fetching, play-bowing machine and chasing tennis balls is a great outlet for her energy. She is very easy to handle on leash and although she would have accidents in her previous home, she does keep her cage clean and “goes” right away outside. She has spent time with a two-year-old and lived with a Yorkie and we’re told she was relaxed, tolerant and playful with both. She has been consistently wiggly with me and after a few minutes warms up to be very cuddly and will drape across my lap. She is such a star, she has been used to help integrate new dogs into our playgroups and has attended adoption events (when things got too overwhelming she sought refuge under a table!). Sweet, sweet, sweet (!!) Athena is already spayed and ready to bring her adorable facial expressions and endearing personality to your home today…come see her at Brooklyn ACC!
09/10/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Athena previously lived with two adults, a yorkie and has spent time with children. The owner stated Athena is shy around strangers and takes several minutes to warm up to new people. The owner mentioned Athena is described as relaxed and playful towards the children and with the yorkie she is tolerant and will engage in exuberant play. It was reported by the owner Athena is not housetrained, she will destroy shoes and any items left out. According to the owner Athena will play growl and try to play tug when a toy is taken away with a high activity level. At intake it was reported Athena was tense, but she did allow all handling with a slow approach. During SAFER Athena came into the assessment room loose and wiggly, she was friendly and playful towards the assessor. She allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Athena joins the game during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment Athena was easy to handle when engaged with the item. Athena appears to be sociable, and did not display any behaviors concerns, so the department feels she can be suitable for an “Average” adopter. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. Her ears are back, her tail is down, and she has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft, soft and loose body, open mouth. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Or dog indicates play with huffing, soft ‘popping’ of the body, etc. Dog jumps on Assessor once play begins. Squeeze 1 & 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Her eyes are averted and her ears are relaxed. Toy: 1. No interest. Dog-dog: When off leash with dogs at the Care Center, Athena displays loose and wiggly body language when interacting with male and female dogs. She is social, checking in on the other dogs often.
