02/21/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
Athena A1065743 is a 3yr old female white & gray AMPBT who was bought off of a friend as a puppy and is being surrendered due to a new baby. She was last seen by a vet in 2014 and currently has no known health issues. Around strangers Athena is friendly/outgoing. She’s lived with a 8yr old and was gentle, exuberant, relaxed, playful with them and loved them; Athena was the same with the adults in the home. There was a female Shih Tzu in the home and at times they got along but sometimes especially during playtime Athena would get overly excited and would nip at the Shih Tzu’s feet & legs (she never broke skin or made them bleed). The owner stated they believe her personality and activity level might be too much for a smaller dog. Athena hasn’t been around cats nor has she bitten/scratched any person or animal. Athena would bark alot during play with the child or the Shih Tzu in the home. During storms/fireworks Athena becomes nervous/anxious; she’ll bark, whine and pace around. She isn’t bothered by the following: having her food/food bowl or treats touched/moved. If you attempt to grab her toy(s) she’ll tug with it to keep you from taking it. Athena isn’t bothered by being brushed, having her nails trimmed or if someone unfamiliar approaches the home/family member unless she gets a “vibe” from you then she’ll bark or with being disturbed while sleeping/resting. She isn’t allowed on the furniture. Athena is described as friendly, very affectionate, very playful, confident, excitable & fearful of loud noises with a high activity level. The owner likes how attentive, alert & protective of children Athena is. Athena loves water, to play with branches & games of fetch & tug when her confidence is on 100%. When the owner is home she’ll follow them around. Athena enjoys ball & rope toys. She’s a mostly indoor only dog who’s walked 1x a day where she pulls on the leash at times and does have the occasional accident inside the home. Athena sleeps in the apt hallway by the door and eats dry Pedigree food 2x a day but as a puppy was given Blue Buffalo and likes rawhides. When left home alone Athena is well behaved. Her known commands are “sit”, “come”, “down”, “stay”, “stop”, “up” & “watch the door”. If she’s in an enclosed area she’s let off the leash where she’ll wander some but comes when called. Athena had a super loose wiggly body and allowed all handling. She allowed to be scanned (-), collared & taken pictures of. She even assisted in typing.

02/25/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
The Behavior Team reports that Athena has made improvements in the last 24 hours, was easier to remove and return to the kennel, more comfortable with handling/collaring, and did not snap when the leash was clipped. Because of her improvement the behavior department decided to re-safer her. Athena walks with a low fearful body language on leash. She was a bit shy and submissive during the assessment – low body, and trying to stay close. Athena was shy during handling with a fearful body language. During the tag interaction Athena became fearful during the first tag with a low body language when the assessor tag her for second time she turned quickly toward the hand but during the last tag Athena turned quickly screaming and raising her lips toward the assessor hand. At the end of the game she approaches the assessor with a submissive body language, low wagging tail and licking the assessor’s hand. The Squeeze item was skipped due to Athena’s reaction to Tag. During the resources Athena was not interested in toys. Athena was surrendered to us. Her previous family described Athena as friendly, very affectionate, very playful, confident, excitable & fearful of loud noises with a high activity level. Around strangers Athena is friendly and outgoing. She’s lived with an 8yr old and was gentle, exuberant, relaxed, and playful with them and loved them; Athena was the same with the adults in the home. She isn’t bothered having her food bowl and treats touched or moved. If you attempt to grab her toy(s) she’ll tug with it to keep you from taking it. The behavior department feels that he would do best if placed with a New Hope partner who can follow up on this behavior in a more stable environment and can provide any necessary behavior modification before placement into a permanent home. Look: 2. Dog’s eyes are averted. Her body posture is fearful; her tail is low and wagging. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, shy body language , mouth closed, lip long, ears likely back, may lip lick. Tag: 4. Dog repeatedly turns quickly away when touched, or repeatedly spins toward the touch, and repeatedly tries to exit. Dog may be crouching, tail is tucked, mouth closed, body stiff. Dog raised her lips and screams during the last tag. Toy 1. No interest.
