03/16/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
03/16/16 11:25 Atari is an adult male American Staffordshire Terrier mix. He was found in the street. His finder brought him straight here and reports that he was friendly with him and well-behaved in the car and walking on his leash. Atari had a soft body while I pet him, scanned him (-), checked his teeth, and switched his leashes. He sat for pictures but had his ears mostly back. While I worked at the computer, he sat or lied down right behind me, quietly watching the door. He didn’t pull on his leash. When I stooped down, he sniffed me and stood or sat next to me while I pet him. He maintained a soft body as he approached new people and while they pet him. He wagged his tail a few times when we talked to him.
03/19/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: What do you do when an oh so handsome fellow is making eyes at you? Why, you introduce yourself, of course!! And thus, I met Atari. Stunning in his well cared for grey coat, he’s easily leashed and out we go. Showing off his housetraining skills the moment we were out the door, Atari walks nicely on leash making for a pleasant walk to the park. Clearly a beloved companion before joining us, he’s been well cared for, well fed and as of my first meeting with him still a bit stressed in this new and chaotic environment. He has the most gorgeous crystal clear amber eyes which are constantly taking in everything around him as he observes and listens. In a backyard pen he quietly explores, head up at times listening………… Atari hopped up on the bench next to me at one point, so I knew he was getting more comfortable with me. Like some of us, it takes a little time to get used to a new situation, new people and a new routine. I have no doubt that with a little patience and a lot of love Atari will make someone a wonderful best friend. 03/19/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Atari pulls a bit on the leash. Atari was stiff and did not show social behavior during the assessment. Atari was uncomfortable with a fearful and repeatedly attempted to get away from the handler during the assessment. He freezes and wrinkles his muzzle to expose his front teeth. The behavior team decided to skip the handling part of the assessment for safety reasons. During the resources Atari was not interested in toys. The behavior department feels that he would do best if placed with a New Hope partner who can follow up on this behavior in a more stable environment and can provide any necessary behavior modification before placement into a permanent home. Look: 5. Dog freezes Toy 1: No interest. Playgroup Notes: When off leash with other dogs, Atari enters the pen with nervous, tense body language. When the helper dog approaches, he “bounces” away but does not engage in play.
