Asia
Hello, my name is Asia. My animal id is #15226. I am a female gray dog at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 8 years 1 weeks old.
I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 02-Dec-2017, with the surrender reason stated as person circumstance- cannot afford to care for.
Asia is at risk for medical reasons, having been diagnosed with Canine Infectious Respiratory Disease Complex, which is contagious to other dogs. Behaviorally, we have no concerns for Asia, whom we believe would be suitable for most homes.
Let’s get to know each other a bit more…
A volunteer writes: Visit Asia without leaving the city! Spending quality time with this incredibly gentle senior really does feel like a vacation from the everyday and she’s such a not-so-little ray of sunshine that you’d swear it wasn’t even cold out. I call her my ‘velvet hippo’ as her silver fur is silky soft and her body low-riding and chunky enough to snuggle any which way you please. Asia has wonderful manners and toddles along nicely on leash, meeting an ACC boy being walked by staff with good-natured interest and some butt sniffs, the polite how-do-you-do of the dog world. She’s cool with taking the stairs up or down and finishes all her business along the way too and while she does favor one of her back legs on occasion, her energy levels are as peppy as a dog half her age. Free in the backyard Asia enjoys more petting and even hops her front legs up on my lap for some kisses but she soon makes it clear that the main event for her is another girl playing in the pen next door. It’s so cute to watch as she tries nosing the gate open to join her new friend and when they finally meet through the fence there are joyful tail wags and delighted snuffles all round. Gorgeous, lovable, independent and super social, Asia is a pet who’d fit into any home with absolute ease. So what are you waiting for? Book your trip to happily ever after with Asia today! Another volunteer writes: A ‘velvet hippo’, as my colleague called her. Perfect! Perfectly round, gentle and sweet, Miss Asia comes to us with an excellent resume of a family dog. She’s relaxed and respectful with children, other dogs, and cats, although doesn’t engage in play. She’ll serenade you during fireworks and storms, is well behaved when left home alone, is housetrained, doesn’t mind getting a bath, and is friendly to all. I loved meeting Miss Asia as she lay her head in my lap for some petting, wagged her tail as staff came into the yard, and of course, went potty right away. As of this writing, she seems a bit lost without her family, but is finding her balance and making friends. We all love her already, and you will, too, the moment you meet her.
