I am a male black and gray shih tzu and yorkshire terr mix. The shelter thinks I am about 5 YEARS old.
I came in the shelter as a OWNER SUR on 03/10/2016 from NY 10472, owner surrender reason stated was PERS PROB.

03/10/16 12:01 BASIC INFO Ashes A1067221 is a 5 year old Shih Tzu/Yorkie Mix. Ashes was a gift from a friend to the family. They have had Ashes for 5 years. A new family member has moved into the home and Ashes is not getting along with them. Ashes does not have any health concerns. SOCIALIZATION Ashes is fearfull and shy around strangers, but warms up after getting to know you. He plays gentle with adults. He has never lived with kids and the owner reccomended that if adopted, it go to a home with no kids. ashes has never lived with another animal. He has never bitten anyone. BEHAVIOR Ashes does not have any behavior issues. He allows you to remove his food bowl, water bowl or toy, without a problem.During loud noises, he is not bothered.Ashes allows you to carry him and bathe him. if an unfamiliar approaches the owner or doorway, ashes barks. FOR A NEW FAMILY TO KNOW Ashes is best described as friendly, affectionate and playful. He has a medium activity level. When home, he follows you around. Ashes plays with any kind of toy. He has been kept mostly indoors. Ashes eats dry food, but was not sure what brand. Ashes is very house trained. When left alone, he is well behaved. He has an open door crate. For exercise, he is briskly walked on the leash. He usually potty’s on dirt. BEHAVIOR DURING INTAKE Ashes growled when being collared. He did allow handling afterwards and quickly went into the kennel.

Ashes came into our center on 3/10/2016. It is reported he is fearful and shy around strangers, but warms up. Behavior around children and other animals is unknown. Owner reports Ashes isn’t bothered if anyone touches his Food, Toys, Treats. It is reported Ashes is house trained and well behaved when left home alone. During intake, Ashes growled while being collared, but allowed all remaining handling and quickly went into his kennel. He was growling and tried to bite during his initial medical exam. Ashes walked nicely on leash for his relief walk, no pulling. He allowed his head to be cupped in assessor’s hands, eyes averted, tense. Ashes growled during Sensitivity item, therefore the remaining tactile portions of the assessment were skipped. He showed minimal interest in Toy. Ashes did not approach the helper dog, attempted to exit. Based on the various instances in which Ashes growled and tried to bite, he must be placed with a New Hope partner. Look: 2. Dog’s eyes are averted. His body posture is tense, his tail is low and not moving. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 5. Dog growls. Toy: 1. Minimal interest in Toy, dog may smell and/or lick, then turns away. Dog-dog: 2. Dog does not approach the helper dog, attempts to exit.
