A volunteer writes: Arthur might have been quite nervous upon arrival at the care center, but he has made a lovely turn around after just a few days. Playgroups with his peers and strolls in the street are helping, of course. He is a handsome gent with an earnest face, is a bit on the thin side and has a sore at the base of his tail, but I never saw him being bothered by it. Arthur is welcoming in his kennel that is quite orderly and clean. Well, he seems quite house trained and marks a lot his territory while sniffing extensively his new premises. He meets other dogs, big and small without fuss, and has been polite and briefly bouncy with his kind in playgroups. Arthur is a good “sitter”, even more for treats that he does not take voraciously from my hand. He does not appear to guard his food bowl in his den. Although a bit aloof at the beginning of our encounter, Arthur warmed up to me, came on my lap, settled there and gave me plenty of kisses. A sweetheart! I forgot to say that a few days ago, I caught him giving stand-up hugs to a staff member. Arthur is in need of TLC. Once feeling safe, loved and cared for, he will give back 100% what he was blessed to receive. Come to the Manhattan Care Center, meet Arthur and make him your king…for ever.

ENERGY LEVEL: RECOMMENDATIONS: Experience (Suitable for an adopter with a previous amount of dog experience) _X_No young children (under 5) Potential challenges: _X_Fearful/potential for defensive aggression (Though remaining human social and attention seeking, Arthur has displayed all appropriate warning signals when made uncomfortable with some forms of handling to sensitive areas of his body (likely due to medical concerns). For these reasons, we recommend allowing Arthur to interact and adjust at his own pace. Force-free, reward based training is advised when introducing or exposing Arthur to new and unfamiliar situations to set him up for success in a new home environment.) _X_Handling Sensitivity
