PROFILE: Basic information
Arthur was brought in as an owner’s surrender due to owner having no time. Owner has had him for the past five years after receiving him from a breeder. Arthur was last seen by the vet at the ASPCA, and according to owner Arthur has no injuries or health concerns.
Socialization & behavior
Arthur is described as being immediately friendly when in the presence of strangers. Arthur has spent time with a 4-year old and in the past and says he is comfortable and affectionate around children. Client says Arthur is comfortable and friendly around all animals, but does not do well with those showing any aggression towards him. Owner says if an animal tries to bite or strike he will then attempt to attack as well. Arthur is described as mellow, affectionate, and confident with a low-mid activity level. He is taken outside three times per day, and said to be house-trained. Owner says there have been no past incidents of Arthur biting anyone or another animal. Arthur is said to be unbothered and relaxed if owner touches food, possessions, or attempts to remove items from his mouth. He is trained not to get onto furniture, and really enjoys baths and the water. He does not mind nail trims, and becomes social and excited when someone unfamiliar approaches.
For a New family to Know
Arthur is said to understand commands sit, stay, come, and down. He enjoys stuffed toys, and mainly relaxes in his favorite spots when home. Since moving to New York, there have been a few incidents where Arthur has used the bathroom in the home due to anxiety. Owner notes that when left alone in the yard he normally digs. He typically stays close when off leash but sometimes will chase an animal.
Behavior during Intake
Arthur was friendly during intake. He immediately approached counselor and allowed petting. He sat when instructed, and allowed all handling to be conducted. Arthur showed no signs of aggression during intake.
