03/08/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Arnold came to us as a stray so we don’t have any behavior information other than what has observed in the shelter. Arnold walked very well on the leash for his relief walk before assessment. He was very interested in interacting with the assessor when entering the behavior room. He allowed the assessor to conduct most of the assessment items while maintaining soft body language, but became uncomfortable on the second paw squeeze. Arnold seemed to become frightful on the second attempt and snapped at the assessor. He did not engage in play with the assessor during the tag interaction, but followed at the end of the leash with soft body language. Arnold displayed no interested in the toy item on this portion of the assessment. We believe that placement with a rescue is best at this time due to the sensitivity displayed during the paw squeeze. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft or squinty, soft and loose body, and open mouth. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft, or low and a bit fearful. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze 1: 5. Dog snaps at the assessor’s hand lip curled. Toy 1: No interest. When off leash with other dogs, Arnold greets with a soft, wiggly body. He exchanges sniffs and then spends the rest of the time exploring his surroundings.
