PROFILE: 02/21/16 14:30
Basic information:
Arnold is a 4 year old neutered male. He was adopted from ACC four years ago. He was surrendered because his previous owner’s living arrangements changed. He is allergic to chicken and beef. The last time he went to the vet was 2015.
Socialization:
Around strangers Arnold is friendly and outgoing and when he plays with adults he is gentle. Around children ages 4-8 years old Arnold is relaxed and playful and when he plays he is exuberant. He has spent time with a lab, a Chihuahua and a Shih Tzu and with them he is playful and when he plays he is exuberant. He lived with a cat and he was relaxed and playful.
Behavior:
Arnold has never bitten a person or animal. He isn’t bothered by storms or fireworks. If he is eating and someone touched his food bowl he continues to eat and has a relaxed body. He doesn’t eat unless he is told to. He is friendly if a treat is taken from him. He is playful if a toy is taken from him. He isn’t bothered if he is pushed off furniture. He is friendly when given a bath. He isn’t bothered if his nails are trimmed. He is friendly if his coat is brushed, if he is held, if an unfamiliar person approached his previous home or owner. He isn’t bothered if he is disturbed while sleeping.
For a New Family to Know:
Arnold is described as friendly, affectionate, playful, shy, and excitable. His activity level is medium. The two things his previous owner liked most about him were; he’s very intelligent and loves to be around. His favorite thing to do is play with his kong and relax. When his previous owner was home he would tend to be in the same room. His favorite toys are chew toys and anything made of rubber or hard plastic. His favorite game is tug. He was kept indoors only and he either slept in his igloo or on a rug. He ate dry Purina ProPlan Sensitive Skin, duck and potato flavor. His favorite treat is peanut butter. He is house trained and never has accidents indoors. He is well behaved when left alone indoors. He was crate trained but no longer needs to be. He knows sit, come, down, paw, bark, and crawl on command. He was taken out for slow walks on leash or of leash 2 ties daily. When on leash he doesn’t pull and when off leash he stayed close by his previous owners side.
Behavior during intake:
Arnold was able to open doors, he sat and layed down on command. He allowed staff to pet him. He sat for pictures and did not pull on his leash. He also rolled over for belly rubs.
Behavior:
Arnold walks calmly on leash. He was a bit fearful and repeatedly attempted to get away from the handler during the assessment. Arnold had a low body position during the tag test, but followed the assessor at the end of the leash. He was not interested in toys.

The behavior department feels that he may do best with an experienced adopter. Arnold is somewhat fearful and needs time to warm up to the handler. Arnold has been showing fearful behavior and avoids interaction in the care center. We cannot be certain if behavior may be suppressed as a result of the shelter environment. Please note that behavior may change when Arnold is more comfortable and settled in a home environment.
Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions.
Sensitivity: 2. Dog accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, shy body language, mouth closed, lip long, ears likely back, may lip lick.
Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft low and a bit fearful.
Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw.
Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw.
Toy 1. No interest.
Group Behavior:
When off leash with other dogs, Arnold ignores initial greeting. He moves slowly throughout the pen and eventually briefly approaches to sniff the female greeter.
2/28 update: Arnold is tolerant of greeting and continues to keep to himself.
