I am a neutered male gray and white am pit bull ter mix. The shelter thinks I am about 5 YEARS old.
I came in the shelter as a OWNER SUR on 10/17/2016 from NY 11357, owner surrender reason stated was ATT ANIMAL. I came in with Group/Litter #K16-078328.

MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 10/18/16 During his initial medical examination, Aries appeared tense though tolerated all handling without issue. ENERGY LEVEL: RECOMMENDATIONS: New Hope Only _X_No children (under 13)(See potential challenges) _X_No cats (See known history) _X_Place with a New Hope partner (See known history/bite history; Aries has remained uncomfortable/avoidant during his stay at our care centers and will display appropriate warning signals upon approach, for this reason we believe Aries would benefit best from placement with a New Hope rescue group who can further assess this behavior in a stable environment.) Potential challenges: _X_Fearful/potential for defensive aggression (Aries has displayed fearful/defensive behavior during his stay at our care centers, tolerating very minimal handling. It is recommended that Aries be allowed a proper time to decompress to aid in acclimating to a new home environment. Force-free, reward based training is advised when introducing/exposing Aries to new and unfamiliar situations.)

10/17/16 20:29 Basic Information: Aries is an American pit bull terrier who was surrendered due to his brother Diesel and himself getting into fights. Socialization: Around strangers Aries is friendly, outgoing and plays exuberantly with adults and children. Aries has lived with/spent time with children from newborns and older. Aries will becomes very alert/tense around other dogs that he does not know. Aries has lived with one other cats who he displayed dominate behavior towards such as constantly chasing and cornering that cat. Behavior: Aries has never bitten another person but has bitten one other dog his brother Diesel. Aries is not bothered by loud sounds. Aries is friendly when someone touches his food or bowl while he is eating, takes a treat/toy away, pushes/pulls him off the furniture, holds/restrains him, disturbs him while he is resting/sleeping or gives him a bath. Aries’s previous owner did not attempt to brush him or trim his nails so it is unknown how he will react to those events. if an unfamiliar person approached Aries’ family/home he will bark and them calm down when he meets them For a new Family to Know: Aries is described as: friendly, affectionate, playful and shy with a medium activity level. When at home Aries will stay in the same room as his owners. v likes to play with balls, stuffed toys, squeaky toys and chew toys. Aries likes to play fetch and chase. Aries was kept indoors and was fed dry food three times a day. Aries is house trained and rarely has any accidents. Aries is well behaved when left alone in the house/yard. Aries knows the commands sit, down, and stay. Aries likes long walks and pulls very hard on a leash. When off leash Aries will run away. Intake Behavior: Aries was a bit fearful of staff and would bark and try to get away from staff during intake and transport.

KNOWN HISTORY: Neutered, Owner Surrender Previously lived with: Adults/cat/dog Behavior toward children: Aries is friendly, outgoing and plays exuberantly with adults and children Behavior toward dogs: Aries will become very alert/tense around other dogs that he does not know Behavior toward cats: Aries is reported to constantly chase/corner the resident cat in the home FG/RG: None reported Bite history: Yes; While bringing other resident dog in the home out into the backyard, for reasons unknown, Aries ran up and attacked him. The owner stated they have never displayed any aggression towards one another and is not sure what caused this incident. Housetrained: Yes Energy level/descriptors: Aries is described as: friendly, affectionate, playful and shy with a medium activity level Other notes: SAFER ASSESSMENT: 10/19/16 Toy: 1. No interest, whining when approached Summary: Aries would not allow touch. He approached assessor sitting in the chair, but once lightly grazed he abruptly backed away, whining consistently, higher pitched whine once lightly touched. All tactile portions of the assessment were skipped as Aries is not an appropriate candidate at the moment due to his high stress level. Aries must be placed with a New Hope partner. PLAYGROUP: An off leash dog-to-dog assessment was unable to be performed, as Aries is uncomfortable with handling, and handlers are unabel to apply a muzzle (required to perform the interaction). Aries came into our care with a history of altercation with the other resident dog in his former household. As per the previous owner “Aries will becomes very alert/tense around other dogs that he does not know.” Aries’ most recent altercation with the resident dog was described as follows by the previous owner: “Aries was left in the backyard. Aries broke through the gate and attacked Diesel. After some time they were able to pull apart the dogs.” The circumstances surrounding this are unknown. Aries has not displayed interest when observing dogs in passing, only offering brief sniffs through the gate.
