11/19/16 17:15 Basic Information: Ariel is a Manchester Terrier who was surrendered due to her previous owner being evicted from her home. Socialization: Around strangers Ariel is friendly and plays exuberantly with adults and children. Ariel has lived with children ages 11 years old and above around them Ariel is relaxed and playful. Ariel has never been around other dogs so it is unknown how she will react to being around them. Ariel has spent time with cats and she will bark and try to chase them. Behavior: Ariel has never bitten another person or animal. Ariel will often get into the garbage and chew on shoes. Ariel is not bothered by loud sounds. Ariel is friendly when someone touches her food or bowl while she is eating, takes a treat/toy away, pushes/pulls her off of the furniture, holds/restrains her, disturbs her while she is resting/sleeping, gives her a bath, trims her nails or brushes her. If an unfamiliar person approaches her family or home Ariel is friendly toward them. For a new family to Know: Ariel is described as friendly, affectionate, playful, confident, and excitable with a very high activity level. When at home Ariel will follow around her owner and likes to play with all toys . Ariel was fed dry food twice a day and uses the bathroom on a wee-wee pad. Ariel does not know any commands and pulls lightly on a leash. Intake Behavior: Ariel had a loose body and a wagging tail during intake. Ariel enjoyed playing with staff and allowed them to scan her for a microchip, take pictures and collar her with no signs of aggression.

KNOWN HISTORY: Spayed, Owner surrender Previously lived with: Adults/Children (ages 11 and above) Behavior toward children: Plays exuberantly, but also relaxed and playful Behavior toward dogs: Unknown Behavior toward cats: Attempts to chase FG/RG: None reported Bite history: None reported Housetrained: Yes Energy level/descriptors: Ariel is described as friendly, affectionate, playful, confident, and excitable with a very high activity level. Other notes: SAFER ASSESSMENT: 11/21/2016 Look: 2. Dog’s eyes are averted. Her body is tense, mouth closed, lip lick Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, her tail is between her legs, mouth closed, lip lick Tag: 3. Dog does not follow, fearful, crouches on last pass, tries to exit. Squeeze 1 / 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Her eyes are averted and her ears are back. Toy 2. Dog keeps a firm hold, body not stiff. Summary: Ariel was not comfortable with handling, will require a slow approach/slow introduction, preferably with treats. She may benefit from initially going home to a calm, quiet, structured environment so she can relax and know what to expect, warm up at her own pace. PLAYGROUP: When off leash with dogs at the Care Center, Ariel displays conflicting language. She may attempt to play, but also targets other dogs, chasing and biting them. When another dog engages in play with her, she offers correction by growling and air snapping at them. Due to the behaviors towards other dogs seen at the Care Center, the Behavior Department recommends that Ariel be placed in a single dog household. According to Ariel’s owner surrender profile, she has not spent time around other dogs. When off leash with dogs at the Care Center, Ariel displays conflicting language. She may attempt to play, but also targets other dogs, chasing and biting them. When another dog engages in play with her, she offers correction by growling and air snapping at them. Due to the behaviors towards other dogs seen at the Care Center, the Behavior Department recommends that Ariel be placed in a single dog household. 11/20: When off leash with male and female small dogs in the Care Center, Ariel is nervous. She is avoidant of the other dogs, and she will lower her body and lip curl when a dog attempts to greet her. 11/21: Ariel actively seeks handler interaction. When another dog approached her when she was with the handler she snapped and chased the dog. 11/22: Ariel displays conflicting body language when in a group of smaller dogs. She attempts to solicit play but becomes reactive towards certain dogs, chasing and biting them while growling. With a larger dog, she displays conflicting play behavior, attempting to play while growling and biting.
