The owner describes Apollo as friendly, playful, confident and is house trained, has a high activity level and well behaved when home alone. According to the previous owner Apollo did not show any concerns in the home with toys, treats or food but some exuberant play during the assessment. There was no growling or tense body language when attempting to remove the toy away, the behavior department feels he can be suitable for an experience adopter. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. His ears are back, his tail is down, and he has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze 2:1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Toy 1: 2. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. He does not place his body between you and the toy. Dog-dog: Apollo was used as a greeter again today and greeted new dogs with soft body language. He is respectful toward nervous males and females as he wanders in the pen. 6/23/16 UPDATE: Since Apollo was surrendered he has been extremely anxious when approaching and in his kennel. We have provided a variety of alternative items for him to chew to soothe his anxiety as an alternative to chewing on leads, walls and beds. Otherwise Apollo shows no other behavior concerns; he is calm and extremely social with both humans and other dogs (see GROUPBEHAVIOR memos). Unfortunately we do not feel he is a suitable candidate for the Adoptions room due to the aforementioned behaviors in kennel and we recommend that he leave the Care Center as soon as possible for his own welfare.
