06/15/16 18:47 Behavior during intake: Apollo was loose body during intake. He allowed me to collar him and sat well for a photo. He became upset when his owner left (crying) Basic information: Apollo is a beautiful 9 year old, male pit bull. His former owner got him from a friend when he was just a few months old. Apollo was surrendered to MACC because there was an incident with the other dog in the home. Socialization: Apollo is very friendly and outgoing with stangers. He has not spent any time around children. He is gentle and playful with adults. He spent his whole life with a terrier named Spike. Spike was 10 years old and Spike did not like Apollo. Spike would often bark at Apollo and take his food. Apollo bit Spike the other day and injured him badly. Apollo does not do well with other dogs. He is amazing with people. He has never been around cats. He has never bitten a person before. He did attack Spike on June 14th and also sometime last year. Behavior history: Apollo does have a history of fighting with the small dog in his former home. He does not seem to be bothered by any kind of storm or fireworks. He doesn’t seem to mind when someone takes a bone or treat away. He loves getting a bath. When someone unfamiliar comes close to his home or his family he will bark. For a new family to know: Apollo is described as a generally mellow dog. He is also is known to be pretty independent. His activity level is somewhere between low and medium. He LOVES to be around people. Whenever his owner is home with him he likes to follow them around the house. He loves to chew and pull on rope toys. He has been kept indoors mostly. 06/22/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Apollo came into our center as an owner surrender after Owner came home and found the other resident dog nonresponsive with blood on it. It should be noted that owner reports Apollo would always attempt to avoid altercation as the other dog has history of antagonizing and going after Apollo. Behavior around cats is unknown. Owner reports Apollo isn’t bothered if anyone touches his Food, Toys, Treats. He is reportedly housetrained to go outside, also is used to going running with owner. During intake, Apollo had a loose body and allowed all handling. Apollo held gaze for three full seconds during Look item. He stood still and accepted the touch during Sensitivity item, lip lick, ears back, tail wag. Apollo followed at the end of the leash for Tag game, approached assessor at end of game. He did not pull his paw back on first Squeeze attempt, pulled back on second attempt, tail wagging. Apollo showed minimal interest in Toy, though this may be due to environment as owner reports he loves to chew and pull on rope toys. Apollo approached the helper dog at an appropriate pace, tail above spine level, not stiff. The Behavior Team feels Apollo would do best with an Experienced adopter. He may benefit from being the only resident dog, otherwise an in-depth interaction is recommended before adoption consideration. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, his tail is between his legs, mouth closed, ears back, lip lick. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft Squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are relaxed Squeeze 2:1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Toy: 1. Minimal interest in Toy, sniffs, then turns away. Dog-dog: 2. Dog approaches the helper dog, lip lick, body soft, tail above spine level, ears forward.
