BEHAVIOR:
Ansari came to us as a stray on 12/4/15. She was very interested in interacting with the assessor when entering the behavior room. She allowed the assessor to conduct all tactile assessment items with soft body language. Ansari did become over aroused during the tag interaction and began to mouth the leash very strongly and body checked the assessor. She took a while to calm down and relax before moving on to the next item. She had tense body language during the second attempt of the squeeze item but did not escalate. Ansari proved easy to handle when chewing on the toy item and kept a firm grip on the toy with loose and wiggly body language when the assessor attempted to take it. The behavior department believes that Ansari would do best with and experienced adopter who can provide and positive behavior modification necessary that Ansari may need when on leash.
Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted, with tail wagging and ears back. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands.
Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item.
Tag: 3. Dog constantly mouths leash very strongly, body checks the assessor, and does not settle quickly.
Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw.
Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw.
Toy: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. She does not place her body between you and the toy.

A volunteer writes:
Ansari is anxious to belong, to do things with people and other dogs. She is a bit unfocused, looking for activities and whines to get attention. She is an active young girl found abandoned in a park and she does not want this to happen again. She wants to make sure she is being heard, cared for, played with, fed and loved…Just like a child…Ansari is a pretty gal dressed in a shiny coat, a bit on the thin side but healthy looking. She gets quite excited and can jump quite high for treats or a ball that she will catch on and off. She can sit on command and walks surprisingly rather well on the leash in the street, eliminating on the way. She comes on my lap where she toss and turn like a little clown with a big smile on her face. She enjoys her time in playgroup with other dogs. Ansari is an energetic, sociable , friendly and good-natured young dog who will benefit from some basic training and thrive with an active owner or family. She would make a dream running or hiking buddy. She is a good girl who yearns to be one of the pack, have a home to call her own and a master to love. Ansari is at the Manhattan Care Center, waiting for you.
