07/19/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Annabelle came into our center as an owner surrender after she ran out of her building after a stray cat, biting and shaking it. It is reported Annabelle has lived in a house with children ages 3 and 4, allows the children to pet her and touch her all over. It is reported Annabelle is not bothered if anyone bothers her while she is eating. She is reportedly crated at times due to her excitable nature, especially when guests first come over as she likes to jump up on them. She is reportedly friendly when strangers approach her while being walked. Annabelle is described as playful and affectionate. During intake, she jumped towards admissions counselors, allowed all handling. She pulled hard on leash for her relief walk. Annabelle allowed her head to be cupped in assessor’s hands, fast wagging tail. She stood still and accepted the touch during Sensitivity item, ears back. Annabelle followed at the end of the leash for Tag game, became playful towards end. She jumped up on assessor during positioning for Squeeze item. Once positioned, Annabelle did not pull her paw back on both Squeeze attempts. She playfully engaged with Toy, kept a firm grip with loose body. Owner reports Annabelle enjoys chewing on ropes, rawhide and rubber bones. Her owner stated that she chew soft toys apart and will sometimes eat the hard pieces inside of it. When walking past dogs in the yard, Annabelle growled and lunged towards other dogs she saw. The Behavior Team feels Annabelle would do best with an Experienced adopter as the only resident dog. She may benefit from obedience classes to learn leash manners, not to jump up, and focus so she can be redirected if she sees another dog or cat. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted, with tail wagging and ears back. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, ears back Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft, playful towards the end of game. Squeeze 1 / 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Her eyes are averted and her ears are relaxed Toy 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. She does not place her body between you and the toy. Dog – dog 4. Dog charges the helper dog while growling and lunging.
