A volunteer writes:
Annabelle is a pretty pixie who sprinkles joy , fun and love all around her. She is so welcoming in her kennel..and out…Her tail wags non stop and she has the wiggliest butt when she meets a new person or a dog, even the little ones. I have seen her in playgroups with other dogs and she is just awesome, super playful and having such a good time. Annabelle , left with us  as her short time owner could not care for pets anymore, has mingled happily with other large dogs and a host  of children of various ages.  She would be housetrained, crate trained, well mannered, friendly to all , very affectionate and free of any handling issues. She is truly a sweetheart, a bench girl who comes on the lap for kisses and hugs . I love the way she sits on command or for treats, sideways..She looks so elegant…. Annabelle is a pleasure for the eyes, a breath of fresh air and the promise of a wonderful forever best friend. Come and meet her at the Manhattan Care Center… She is a true gem in a small package.

A volunteer writes:   Ears!  Voted the best ears at ACC, Miss Anabelle has more than adorable ears going for her.   So wiggle butt she’s almost a pretzel, she’s thrilled to see me, leash in hand.   Out we go where she potties immediately and we’re off to the park.  She’s a petite little girl whose tail never stops wagging, and although she pulls on the leash her wagging tail and smiling face is a joy. She’ll benefit from some leash training, or a harness to make it a more enjoyable walk for both ends of the leash.  Surrendered with her housemate Lola (A1047413) as the family separated, and her former owner is working 7 days a week, we’re told that Anabelle is “very loyal and reads emotions well”,  has been with kids ages 3-10 and is playful with them, knows ‘sit’ and ‘give paw’, is fine with baths, nail trims and brushing, is respectful of other dogs, and is housetrained when walked regularly.  Anabelle was a little nervous in the elevator but took courage in hand and did it!  Yay Anabelle!  In group play she’s a HELPER DOG – yes, she’s that good and tolerant, and a polite greeter to all.  She loved playing with a ball and a plush toy, carrying them around but never chewing on them.   Affectionate, sweet, and rolling in for some snuggling, Anabelle aced her behavior assessment indicating she’ll be a good fit in just about any home. Maybe yours?

 PROFILE:

Basic information

Annabelle A1065448 is an approx 4 year old American Staffordshire terrier. She was given to the owner from a friend. He has been caring for her for 4 months and is unable to keep her because of personal problems. She has not been to the vet and she has no known health issues.

Socialization

Around strangers, Annabelle is friendly and outgoing. She plays gently with adults and very playful with children of all ages. She is relaxed and respectful with children. She lived in a home with a larger female mix of 7 years. She played very well with the other dog in the home. She plays gently with other dogs as well. She has not been around cats. She has not bitten anyone or any other animal.

Behavior

Annabelle is anxious when left alone in the home. She is not bothered by fireworks or thunderstorms. She is not bothered when you take her food bowl, treats or toys away from her. She is not bothered when being pushed off of the furniture or restrained. She barks when someone approaches the yard. She loves baths and brushing. Her behavior during nail trimming is unknown.

For a new family to know

Annabelle is friendly, affectionate, and playful. She has a medium activity level. The owners favorite thing about her is that she is very friendly with everyone she meets. Her favorite activity is going to the dog run and running around. In the home, she stays in her favorite spot on her dog bed. She has been mostly kept indoors. She is housetrained and is walked twice a day. She is also crate trained and is left in a crate for up to 4 hours a day. She knows how to sit and stay. She does not pull on the leash and when off leash, she stays close by the owners side. She was fed Alpo dry dog food.

Behavior during intake

Annabelle was very friendly during intake. She allowed to be scanned(+), collared and photographed. She was very excited and jumps up to greet. She wanted lots of attention and petting. She allowed to be transferred into a kennel. She allowed to be picked up. She did not resisit or struggle.

When off leash with other dogs Annabelle solicits a chasing game with a playful female. She begins to mouth the other dogs shoulders while running.
