08/14/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
08/14/16 16:05 Basic Information Hennessey is a 1 year old spayed American Pitt Bull that is being surrendered because owner does not have time to take care for her. Owner has surrendered her twice for the same issue. She was given to him as a gift when she was about two months old. She was seen by a vet at our facility back in 06/08/2016 when owner first surrendered her. Socialization Owner stated Hennessey is friendly around strangers. She has lived with kid’s ages 2 to 17 and was very playful and tolerant of them. Owner stated his 2 year old child will do anything she wanted to Hennessey. She plays in a gentle manner with adults and kids. She lived with a 1 year old female Shih Tzu. She was playful, respectful, tolerant, and played in a gentle manner with this dog. She has never lived or been arounds cats or any other kind of animal. She has never bitten a person or animal. Behavior Owner stated Hennessey has no behavior issues and is not bothered by storms or fireworks. Owner stated Hennessey is not bothered by having her food touched while eating, having a treat of any kind taken away, having a toy taken away, being pushed off furniture, being held, disturbed while sleeping, or if brushed. She is not bothered if someone unfamiliar approaches owner’s door or if someone unfamiliar approaches a family member. Owner has never trimmed Hennessey’s nails. Hennessey is afraid of water at first during bath time but then relaxes. For a New Family to Know Owner describes Hennessey as affectionate, playful, and friendly with a high activity level. She follows her owner around when home. She likes to play with stuffed and squeaky toys. She likes to play fetch and tug. She sleeps in her own bed and is kept indoors only. Owner feeds her both dry and wet food. He mixes the two in a bowl and feeds her 2 to 3 times a day. She is house-trained and does potty on grass and dirt. She is well behaved when left home alone. She has never been left in a yard. She was crated when she was little but owner always left the door open. She knows commands like sit, stay, down, and come. She likes to run for exercise and may pull slightly on a leash. Owner never walked her off a leash.

07/26/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Soft, sexy and sultry is just one of Miss Hennessey’s ‘looks’….and those bedroom eyes get me every time! Her other ‘look’ is a happy, bright eyed, wide smile face. Both ‘looks’ are on a well groomed, fit figure, wrapped up in a gorgeously groomed coat. Simply put – she’s stunning and looks fabulous all the time. Her leash manners are lovely, she’s happy to be out for a walk but the heat gets to both of us and we do our best snuggling inside as we wait for her kennel to be ready. In the yard she wags her tail happily at a dog in an adjoining pen, plays tug with me briefly, takes treats gently but seems to prefer picking them up off the ground than from my fingers. Hennessey was adopted from us and returned as her person no longer had time for her. She does well with other dogs, soliciting and engaging in rough play. Hennessey is looking for a home with structure, love and a person who understands what a commitment is all about. She’s such a good girl, we were happy to see her adopted, sad to see her back, but perhaps that adoption was just a ‘place saver’ until the right person meets her. Could that be you?

07/25/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Hennessey came into our center on 7/23/2016. She was friendly and affectionate upon intake. Hennessey walked well on leash but pulled if interested in something. She jumped up hard on assessor upon entering SAFER assessment room, mouthing arm with some pressure. Hennessey was difficult to position for tactile portions of the SAFER assessment. She pulled out of assessor’s hands on all three Look attempts. Hennessey displayed high energy and movement during Sensitivity item, body soft but wiggly. She jumped up and mouthed assessor’s arm during Tag game, some light to moderate pressure, settled easily at end of game. Hennessey shoulder rubbed during positioning for Squeeze item. Once positioned, Hennessey moved her body away so remaining item was conducted using flank. Hennessy displayed high energy and movement on both Flank Squeezes, jumping up on assessor at end of item. She kept a firm grip on Toy, a bit stiff. When off leash with greeter dog Hennessey solicits and engages in rough play. The Behavior Team feels Hennessey would do best with an Experienced adopter that does not have children. She would benefit from obedience classes to learn body awareness and not to mouth or jump up. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 2. Dog displays high energy and movement, body soft Tag: 3. Dog jumps on assessor hard during game, mouths assessor’s arm with light to moderate pressure. Squeeze 1: 3. Dog is soft in body and eye, and moves her legs/body so that the Assessor is unable to hold the paw Flank squeeze 1 / 2. 2 Dog displays high energy and movement, jumps up on assessor at end Toy 3. Dog takes away, keeps a firm hold. Her body is stiff. Dog-dog: When off leash with greeter dog Hennessey solicits and engages in rough play. 8/30/16 update: Hennessey has been at the care center for over a month and is beginning to show signs of behavioral deterioration as a result of the long stay. She is a young and enthusiastic dog and the kennel environment cannot meet her needs for exercise and mental stimulation. She has shown a low threshold for arousal recently and is mouthing with moderate-to-hard pressure on walks. This behavior appears to be motivated by play or attention-seeking, but she is becoming difficult to manage in the care center. It is in her best interest to move into a stable home environment where she can receive daily exercise and mental and physical stimulation.

06/09/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
***Greeter Dog*** Hennessey solicits and engages in exuberant play while off leash with other dogs. The behavior team feels Hennessey may be placed into a home with another social, playful dog. Her previous owner cites “She lived with a 1 year old female Shih Tzu. She was playful, respectful, tolerant, and played in a gentle manner with this dog.”. 6/9: When off leash with other dogs, Hennessey sniffs around the pen briefly greets. She is avoidant of sexually motivated dogs. 6/10 update: Hennessey engages in bouts of play with males and females, often replicating playstyles. She is uncomfortable when mounted and will repeatedly attempt to get away but does not offer correction. 6/11 update: Hennessey needs time to warm up and sniff the other dogs she is interacting with, but once comfortable, she engages very briefly is soft play. 7/24 update: When off leash with other dogs, Hennessey solicits and engages in rough play. 8/5 update: Hennessey engages in rough, running play with males and females. If mounted she does not offer correction but will solicit play instead. 8/7-8/13 update: Hennessey engages in rough, running play with males and females She solicits by offering paw slaps and mouthing the other dogs. 8/14-8/20 update: Hennessey is social and appropriate with both males and females. She engages in rough play but will self handicap with dogs who are not comfortable. 8/21-8/27 update: Hennessey continues to engage in rough, mouthy play with males and females.

A volunteer writes:
The name “Anna” always reminds me of “The King & I” (or “Anna and the King” depending on your genre). In it, Anna is a widowed school teacher who arrives in late 1900’s Bangkok to tutor the children of the King of Siam. Anna is gorgeous, delicate, ethereal, sophisticated, and, of course, painfully polite. Funnily enough, our Anna is also all of those things. Only 1 year-old but with a calm demeanor befitting a pup 5 times her age, Anna came to us as a stray so much of her past is unknown. We can make our assumptions. Her beautiful, fawn-colored coat tightly covers protruding ribs and hip bones, and on our first meeting she is clearly ravenous for treats. Still, she is ever-patient. She sits still as a painting (and just as pretty) waiting for my cue and it seems she would wait forever if I only I were to ask. She walks beautifully on leash responding to every turn I give, like a debutante being led across a ballroom floor. Toys prove uninteresting to Anna, and admittedly I feel almost foolish for dangling a silly, squeaking thing in front of such a discerning face. But Anna is without judgment. She quietly regards me as any teacher would a student, wondering and accepting of what I might offer next. As the afternoon grows late, so does the pavement hot underneath my feet, and by the end of our day I’m a sweaty mess. Hair everywhere, shirt sticking to me, completely disheveled and unkempt. I look over and see Anna, having found a spot of shade, sitting cool as a cucumber, not a pant in sight. She is ethereal, delicate, and, lovely as ever. A true beauty in a new-found land, Undoubtedly Anna could teach all of us a thing or two. And who knows? Maybe the right person, a very special person, could show her the one thing she doesn’t yet know – the love of a forever family. Anna is waiting in adoptions at Manhattan’s ACC.

PLAYGROUP:

6/9:  When off leash with other dogs, Anna sniffs around the pen briefly  greets.  She is avoidant of sexually motivated dogs.

6/10 update:  Anna engages in bouts of play with males and females, often replicating playstyles. She is uncomfortable when mounted and will repeatedly attempt to get away but does not offer correction.
