09/23/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Angus is a puppy… full of puppy energy. Angus enjoys fetch and playing in the pool. If you’re looking for a fun new friend, look no further. Angus is ready and waiting at the Staten Island Care Center. Another volunteer writes: Angus is a sweet, charming, and very happy puppy. With male model looks stopping traffic on the walk, Angus trots along like he doesn’t have a care in the world. He’s not looking for fashion work, just a new home where he can hang his hat. I’ve had him with a few dogs and he was happy to meet them. Watch his videos and see this diamond shine! Another volunteer writes: Angus is so handsome! He’s playful, affectionate, and even likes water. Angus is so much fun to play with but also has a calmer, softer side. He likes to cuddle and give kisses. He does well in playgroup with other dogs, even with the rough and tumble ladies 😉 He’s an awesome dog so please consider bringing him home to be a loving part of your family.
09/23/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Angus came into our center after a member of the public found him as a stray. During intake, Angus was friendly and solicited attention, but was hesitant to enter his kennel. Angus was nervous upon entering SAFER assessment area, head and body low. He licked his lips during Look item, eyes averted. Angus was distracted during Sensitivity item, focused on exit. He did not follow on leash for Tag game, unresponsive to touch at each pass, did not re-approach assessor at end of game. Angus lip licked during Squeeze item, did not pull his paw back on both attempts. He showed no interest in Toy. Angus approached the helper dog at an appropriate pace, relaxed. No red flag behaviors were seen on his SAFER assessment. Angus appears to be timid with new people and in new environments, though he appears to have good coping skills. We recommend a slow approach and giving Angus time to adjust to his new home and new family at his own pace; but once comfortable, Angus has been social, playful, and affectionate. Look: 2. Dog’s eyes are averted, lip lick Sensitivity: 2. Dog is focused on exit, His body is soft, mouth open Tag: 2. Dog does not follow on leash, unresponsive to the Assessor, will not re-approach Squeeze 1 / 2: 2. Dog lip licks, does not pull back paw Toy 1: No interest. Dog-dog: 2. Dog approaches helper dog with tail at spine level, body not stiff, ears relaxed, lip neutral.
