8/23/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Angel lived with his previous owner for 5 months, in a household with three children (ages 2, 4, and 7). He is noted to be friendly, affectionate, and playful with the children, sometimes jumping on them. He was playful with a small dog who visited his home, pulls toward other dogs on walks, and he has not been exposed to cats. He is described as friendly, playful, and independent, with a high energy level. The owner stated Angel growls when someone touches or removed his food, treats, or bones, though he does not escalate. He is noted to bark at strangers on the street and his owner believes that Angel may bite if a stranger tries to pet him without giving Angel time to warm up to the person. At intake it was reported Angel barked at the admission counselor, though he was very social and affectionate with his owner. During SAFER Angel came into the assessment room calm and relaxed, he was friendly and social towards the assessor with a slow approach. He allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Angel was relaxed during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment Angel was easy to handle when engaged with the item. Due some concerns stated from the previous owner, the behavior department feels he would be best suited with an experienced adopter in an adult only home. Look: 2. Dog’s eyes are averted. His body posture is fearful and trembles, his tail is low and not moving. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, his tail is between his legs, body tense with his mouth closed. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1/2: 2. Dog quickly pulls back his paw. Toy 1: No interest. Dog-dog: When off leash with dogs at the Care Center, Angel is nervous as he greets the other dog with a tense face. He mostly keeps to himself as he anxiously paces in the pen. He is tolerant of the female dog’s greeting.
08/20/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
According to Angel’s previous owner, a small dog visited Angel’s home and after a few minutes, Angel and the small dog were playing with each other. When Angel sees dogs outside on walks, he will bark and pull on his leash. When off leash with dogs at the Care Center, Angel is nervous and mostly keeps to himself when wandering in a pen with male and female dogs. When a dog greets him for too long, he begins to lip curl. The Behavior Department believes that Angel would be most comfortable as the only dog in the home, however a dog-dog interaction can be conducted with a potential adopter’s dog to assess Angel’s comfort level. 8/20: Angel is nervous as he greets the other dog with a tense face. He mostly keeps to himself as he anxiously paces in the pen. He is tolerant of the female dog’s greeting. 8/25: Angel mostly keeps to himself when interacting with calm male and female dogs. When a dog greets him for too long, he begins to lip curl.
