Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Upon intake it was reported Andrea was energetic and had a loose wiggly body, she allowed all handling. During SAFER Andrea came into the room loose and wiggly, she was relaxed and social towards the assessor, allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Andrea was relaxed during the tag interaction, and during the resource portion of the assessment Andrea was easy to handle when engaged with the item. Andrea appears to be sociable, and did not display any behaviors concerns, so the department feels she can be suitable for an “Average” adopter. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft, or low and a bit fearful. Squeeze 1: 1 Dog gently pulls back her paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Toy: 1. Minimal interest in toy, dog smells, then turns away. Dog-Dog:Andrea was surrendered as a stray so her past behavior around other dogs is unknown. When off leash with dogs at the Care Center, Andrea greets with a stiff body and assertive posturing and is muzzled before being allowed into the pen. Once in the pen she is uncomfortable and proximity sensitive and corrects the greeter dog when he gets too close to her.
