08/02/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
08/02/16 09:07 Anakin A1083764 is a young male brown/yellow brindle & white Am Staff terrier mix who was found on a train platform in the Bronx a little while ago by police. They stated he was friendly and allowed them to carry him to their vehicle to be brought into our BXAC. During intake Anakin was all about love and affection. He had a super loose & wiggly body and allowed all handling. Anakin allowed to be scanned (-), collared and taken pictures where he showed off his “sit” like a pro. Anakin had to be lifted into his kennel as he was hesitant and appeared to want to stay with us. He’s a sweet boy.
08/04/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Every now and again you meet a pup, and the connection is instant. At the start of a walk, you find yourself treating them as you would your very own. Using the same nicknames you’ve given to yours, scratching the same favorite spots, congratulating them and cooing at them in the same high pitch and tone. Towards the middle of the walk you find a shaded bench and together decide it’s time for a sit. That’s when your pup, I mean Anakin, crawls right up into your lap and lays his beautiful, brindled paws across you like he’s been doing it all his life. He’s light and wiggly, affectionate and attentive. He licks your ear and kisses your face and suddenly the wear of the day is gone. As people pass by, strolling to nowhere and somewhere, they call out “awww” and “beautiful dog!” You yell back, “thank you!” without a thought. He is yours after all. It’s only at the end of the walk that things get tricky. Suddenly you realize you’re taking Anakin to a home that isn’t yours. He won’t be collapsing at your feet, tired and happy from your walk, or staring at you expectantly once dinner time rolls around. He won’t jump up every time you leave the couch or snore incessantly as he crowds your much-too-small bed. And right then, as if on cue, a boy is standing in front of you, his eyes like saucers, looking Anakin up and down with glee. “Is he yours??” You can only nod. Later, tucking Anakin back into his kennel, you rub that spot one more time and smile thinking of all the wonderful things that are soon to come for him. Of all the love, and adoration, and endless snuggles he soon will know. And of that very lucky soul who will answer “yes,” when someone asks them “is he yours?” Anakin is waiting to be yours at Manhattan’s ACC.
08/03/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Anakin came to the care center as a stray so we have no information on his behavior in a home. A member of the public found him on a train platform. Upon intake he was reported to be loving and affectionate, displaying a loose and wiggly body and sitting when asked to. For his relief walk, Anakin pulled lightly on leash. When entering the room, Anakin appeared friendly and playful, grabbed the leash. He averted his eyes during Look. During Sensitivity, he grabbed/chewed the leash and had a soft body, with mouth open and tail wagging. Anakin displayed a bit a mouthy behavior in general, mild pressure. He did not pull back his paw and licked the assessor’s hand for Squeeze. He kept a firm grip on the Toy, but had a loose body. Due to Anakin’s excitability and leash biting behaviors, the Behavior Team recommends Anakin be placed with an Experience adopter with no young children who will be able to provide basic training and mental and physical stimulation, such as daily walks and runs, exercise and play, to positively direct his energy and enthusiasm. He would do best being walked by adults only until this behavior is modified. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted, with tail wagging and ears back. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, tail wagging , body soft, mouth open. Tag: 2. Dog is playful, mouths the assessor lightly, grabs leash. He is able to settle. Squeeze 1/2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. He licks assessor’s hand. Toy 1: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose. Dog to Dog: Tail high, body loose, approached dog quickly.
08/09/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Anakin engages in play, however also does become intent on mounting female dogs during. It shoudl be taken into consideration that Anakin is currently unaltered. Anakin has not yet been introduced to a male dog while in our care. He arrived as a stray, so history or behavior with dogs in home is unknown. The behavior team feels that pending an adoption interaction, Anakin may be able to go into a home with another playful dog. 8/4: When off leash with other dogs, Anakin engages in play with intent to mount. 8/6 update: Anakin engages in rough, mouthy play with a boistrous female. After a lengthy play session he attempts to mount but responds to correction from the helper dog. 8/9: Anakin engages in play with intent to mount.
