08/18/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Amy came into the shelter as a stray; her past behaviors in a home are unknown. Behavior during intake: Amy was described as friendly and relaxed. During SAFER Amy was playful and soft she had a loose body posture when interacting with the assessor; she allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Amy was relaxed during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment. Amy was easy to handle when engaged with the item. Amy appears to be sociable, and did not display any behavior concerns, so the department feels she can be suitable for an “Average” adopter. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is wagging with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Or dog indicates play with huffing, soft ‘popping’ of the body, etc. mouths the leash no pressure. Squeeze 1:1 Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Her eyes are averted and her ears are back. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Her eyes are averted and her ears are back, and licks hand. Toy: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. She does not place her body between you and the toy. Playgroup:When off leash at the care center, Amy greets the other dog at the gate with a soft wiggly body. Once the pen door opens, she begins to nervously bounce around and offer muzzle licks to the greeter. She solicited gentle play a few times.
08/17/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Amy was brought to the care center as a stray so her pass behavior towards other dogs is unknown. When off leash at the Care Center, Amy continually solicits high energy play with male and female dogs. She is responsive to the other dog’s body language that he does not wish to play and explores the pen. She may become frustrated when a dog does no reciprocate play, becoming very mouthy and vocal in her solicitations. The Behavior Department recommends that a through dog-dog interaction be conducted to ensure that a potential adopter’s dog is compatible with Amy’s high energy play style. 8/17: Amy greets the other dog at the gate with a soft wiggly body. Once the pen door opens, she begins to nervously bounce around and offer muzzle licks to the greeter. She solicited gentle play a few times. 8/20- 8/21: Amy greets the other male and female dogs displaying loose and wiggly body language. She continually solicits play but bowing and muzzle licking the other dog. She is responsive to the other dog’s body language that he does not wish to play and explores the pen. 8/23: Amy continually solicits high energy play with a playful male. She ignores his body language that he does not wish to play. She becomes frustrated with the lack of play, becoming very mouthy and vocal in her solicitations.
