07/14/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
07/14/16 08:44 Amelia is an adult female APBT mix, possibly with a hound. She was found outside. Her finder cared for her overnight. Amelia was well-behaved in his home. She only pottied outside. She followed her finder and was very friendly and affectionate with him. She was relaxed and playful with his small-medium male and female dogs. Amelia didn’t bite anyone. She ate dog food. Amelia had a soft body and wagging tail while I scanned (-), collared, and positioned her for pictures. She sat when asked and sniffed a treat.
07/23/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Young, pretty, lively and friendly…this is Amelia for you, a cute one year old damsel found as a stray, bright eyed, well dressed in a shiny brindley coat and equipped with the most engaging smile that goes in sync with her enthusiasm and joy to be out and in company. She is a bit on the thin side and seems to have already been a mom, but there is nothing stern about Amelia, though. She is all ready to put her past behind her and start fresh with you, as your forever best friend. Amelia is eager to come out of her kennel. She pulls a little initially then gets used to her walker’s pace. She eliminates as we go and could, maybe, be house trained. Dogs, big and small (and well mannered) are met uneventfully. In playgroup with her peers, Amelia expects good behavior from her kind. She enjoys herself but will let other dogs know if they misbehave. Loose in a pen, Amelia reveals her playful side. She plays tag with me. Her mouth opens wide and her eyes shine. She runs briefly after a ball and brings it back toward me. She absolutely loves treats and will jump for them, although she can sit on command. Amelia comes when called and settles on my lap for caresses. She offers kisses galore. Amelia is a very cute nugget, a tiny adult so close to puppyhood, playful and affectionate, who is waiting for you at the Manhattan Care Center. Come and meet her soon. She so wants to be yours.
07/18/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Amelia came into our center after a member of the public found her as a stray and kept her overnight. While in Finder’s home, Amelia was well behaved, got along with other resident dogs of various sizes, only pottied outside. During intake, Amelia had a soft body and wagging tail, allowed all handling. She allowed her head to be cupped in assessor’s hands during Look item, low wag. Amelia leaned in during Sensitivity item, lip lick. She did not follow at the end of the leash for Tag game, fearful, needed a reset out of the room in order to approach for next item. Amelia did not pull her paw back on both Squeeze attempts, licked assessor’s hand. She showed minimal interest in Toy. When off leash with other male and female dogs Amelia is initially tense but does engage briefly in play, correcting when it is too exuberant. Over time she becomes more comfortable and begins to engage in running play with the helper dog. The Behavior Team feels Amelia would do best with an Experienced adopter that does not have young children. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted, with tail low wagging and ears back. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft or squinty, soft and loose body, open mouth. Tag: 2. Dog is fearful, does not follow, will not re-approach Squeeze 1 / 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Her eyes are averted and her ears are back. Toy 1. Minimal interest. Dog smells, licks and mouths, then walks away. Dog-dog: When off leash with other male and female dogs Amelia is initially tense but does engage briefly in play, correcting when it is too exuberant. Over time she becomes more comfortable and begins to engage in running play with the helper dog.
07/15/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
7/15: When off leash with other male and female dogs Amelia is initially tense but does engage briefly in play, correcting when it is too exuberant. Over time she becomes more comfortable and begins to engage in running play with the helper dog. 7/16 update: Amelia continues to engage in running play, but she offers loud corrections for inappropriate behaviors. With a younger female she consistently corrects her lack of social skills and with another female that offers inappropriate defensive corrections Amelia tenses and repeatedly corrects her. 7/19: Amelia has raised hackles and high tail when greeting. She runs along briefly with playful dogs. 7/20: Amelia keeps to herself today. 7/21: Amelia is soft when engaging in play. 7/22 update: Amelia engages in a bit of play when solicited by a female, but when it becomes exuberant she offers correction.
