03/31/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
03/31/16 20:49 These 8 dogs were seized by police from an apt after their owner was evicted. They were left in the apt in crates. Police had given them dog food. They all were relaxed around each other. They would sniff each other and sometimes play with each other with loose, wiggly bodies. They were dirty on their undersides and rear ends, apparently soaked in urine. She vomited once. Her nails are very overgrown and they push her toes back and flat. She was reluctant to walk (possibly due to her nails) and had to be carried. She had a soft body and low tail while we pet her, scanned her (-), collared her, positioned her for pictures, picked her up, and carried her. She stood or sat when we set her down and rested her head in our laps or hands.
04/10/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Little Amaryllis is a very timid flower. She is not at the back of her kennel, though. She wants to go out and sits right at her door. i can see her tail wagging a little but her face is stern. Although leashed easily, Amaryllis is not too keen about doing the hallways. I have to carry her into the yard. Once free in a pen, she is a bit more at ease. She even chases a naughty sparrow…She is hungry and will jump for treats that she does take politely from my hand. She can sit upon request. Her tail is mostly kept between her legs and her ears are pulled backward. She is so timid….but accepts caresses , two bows around her neck and comes to settle by me for some bonding. Amaryllis wakes up in playgroup with her peers. No wonder…..She was found in an empty apartment with seven of her housemates, unkept and famish but loose and all wiggly around each other….Quite amazing!!! Good dogs!!!! Amaryllis is no disappointment. She is quite a sweet gal, shy yes , much too thin and not used to a posh life. That can all be changed…Not with a magic wand but just a word from you. I love you , Amaryllis and i want you to be my forever best friend…Come and meet Amaryllis at the Manhattan Care Center.
04/07/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Amaryllis walks with a low fearful body language on leash. She was shy but friendly during the assessment – low body, but trying to stay close. Amaryllis was fearful while playing tag but unresponsive to the touch. She was not interested in toys. The behavior department feels that she may do best with an experienced adopter. Amaryllis is somewhat fearful and needs time to warm up to the handler. Amaryllis is nervous and trembling throughout the assessment and has a crouched body posture. The behavior department advises that future adopters should be able to provide positive experiences for Amaryllis. In addition, we recommend that introductions are done slowly, and Amaryllis be given the opportunity to interact at their own pace. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, shy body language , mouth closed, lip long, ears likely back, may lip lick. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (may need coaxing to approach.) she is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Toy 1. No interest. Playgroup Notes: Amaryllis begins to open up and engage in bouts of play with other dogs.
04/04/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Amaryllis initially displayed fearful behavior in the yard during off-leash interaction. Over time, she has begun to open up and engage in brief bouts of play. Amaryllis arrived into our care with several other dogs, male and female, but their in-home behavior with one another is unknown. The behavior department recommends a pre-adoption interaction for Amaryllis before placement into a home with another dog. When off leash with other dogs, Amaryllis is fearful in the yard, with a crouched body and tucked tail. She briefly approaches to sniff the male greeter dog with a small wag. 4/5 update: Amaryllis offers a few sniffs, though nervous and trembling. 4/6 update: Amaryllis begins to open up and engage in bouts of play with other dogs. 4/7 update: Amaryllis engages briefly in play.
