06/14/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: A pretty little mouse with bunny ears… Here comes Amarilis, barely one year old, very puppyish, petite and pixie like at 38 pounds. A bit shy at first, she opens up very quickly with people and dogs alike. In playgroups with her peers, she engages in running play, mouthing a little and vocalizing in excitement. She does just the same with me as we are playing tag or with a ball. Amarillis is clearly just a babe and full of expectations…No need to wash your face before meeting this cute gal. She will make sure to lick you thoroughly while seeking caresses and hugs. Amarillis is very affectionate. She was found as a stray by a good samaritan who let us know that she was super friendly with her. She also jumped into the receptionist’s arms when she was brought to the care center.. Amarillis walks beautifully on the leash and sits obediently on command and for treats. She has already some skills that a new master or family will just have to perfect… Amarillis is at the Manhattan Care Center, dreaming to start a new chapter in her life with you.
06/13/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Amaris came into our center after a member of the public found her as a stray. During intake, she allowed all handling and jumped into admission counselor’s arms. She was friendly and sociable upon entering SAFER assessment room. Amaris jumped up to lick assessor’s face during Look item. She accepted the touch during Sensitivity item, attempting to lick assessor’s face. Amaris playfully ran and jumped during Tag game, grabbed leash and mouthed a little, but settled easily at end of game. She did notpull her paw back on both Squeeze attempts, licks assessor’s hand. Amaris kept a firm grip on Toy, body not stiff. When off leash with other dogs Amaris engages in running play, often chasing the helper dog. She jumps on him, mouths and may vocalize during play. The Behavior Team feels Amaris would do well with an Average adopter. She may benefit from obedience classes to learn leash manners as well as not to jump and mouth. She may do best with daily mental and physical stimulation in the forms of walks, runs, exercise, and play to positively direct her energy and enthusiasm. Look: 1. Dog jumps up to lick the Assessor’s face with tail wagging, ears back and eyes averted. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture, attempts to lick assessor’s face. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game, grabs leash and mouths, settles easily at end. Squeeze 1 / 2: 1. Dog does not pull back paw, licks hand. Toy 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip, not stiff Dog-dog: When off leash with other dogs Amaris engages in running play, often chasing the helper dog. She jumps on him, mouths and may vocalize during play.
06/11/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Amaris engages in running chase play with male and female dogs. She is often exuberant at play, mouthing, jumping, and vocalizing throughout. The behavior department feels that Amaris may do best if placed with another highly playful, energetic dog. A pre-adoption interaction is highly encouraged to ensure that Amaris’s style of play is compatable with that of a resident dog. Amaris arrived into our care as a stray, so in-home behavior around dogs is unknown. 6/11: When off leash with other dogs Amaris engages in running play, often chasing the helper dog. She jumps on him, mouths and may vocalize during play. 6/12: Amaris jumps on the other dog’s back, and mouths- eventually engages in running play. 6/14 update: Amaris is forward upon introduction–immediately jumping on the helper dog. She seems to get more aroused as the other dog runs through the pen but calms quickly when he ceases.
