02/12/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Alta looks like she put on three out of four white socks, painted an eyebrow over one eye, and went on her merry way! She pulls off her asymmetrical look with flying colors — she is SO CUTE. She isn’t shy about asking for attention from her cage and pulls some once we get out (she has a lot of catching up to do, after all!). She LOVES to chase after tennis balls and will bring them back, but prefers teasing me or popping them like bubble gum to dropping them. While she comes across as a bit of a tomboy, she can also compete with the charm school grads. She seems to keep her cage clean forever, so it seems likely she has housetraining. She “sits” like a pro, takes treats politely and is very treat motivated. She’s very wiggly and friendly to all the people we come across, and after romping around a bit, she shows her cuddly side! If I had a tail I’d wag it right back at her — she’s a lot of fun and a really great gal! Alta would be delighted to meet you at Brooklyn ACC!
02/03/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Alta came in as a stray, so her past behaviors in a home are unknown. At intake it was reported Alta was full of energy with her tail wagging, she allowed all handling. During SAFER Alta came into the assessment room loose and wiggly, she was friendly and playful towards the assessor, allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Alta was distracted but not fearful during the tag interaction and during the resources portion of the assessment Alta was easy to handle when engaged with the item. Alta appears to be sociable, and did not display any behaviors concerns, so the department feels she can be suitable for an “Average” adopter. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (need coaxing to approach.) She is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1 & 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Toy: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. She does not place her body between you and the toy. Dog-dog: When off leash with other dogs, Alta is a hyper-motivated player. She engages in rowdy, high energy play with body slams, leap overs and running/chase play. She gives a clear correction when play gets too rough for her comfort.
01/31/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
When off leash with other dogs, Alta greets appropriately with a loose, wiggly body. She solicits high energy rowdy play with playbows and bounces. 2/01 update: Alta is a hyper-motivated player. She engages in rowdy, high energy play with body slams, leap overs and running/chase play. She gives a clear correction when play gets too rough for her comfort. 2/02 update: Alta greets with a wiggly, bouncy body but her energy level was a little low and she was coughing so we returned her to her kennel. 2/03 update: Alta engages in rowdy play and can become assertive when the energy level increases. She will correct the other dog for behavior that is uncomfortable for her. 2/07 update: Alta engages in rowdy play with several males. She is uncomfortable with dogs who’s energy is higher than hers and will offer corrections like multiple barks and muzzle punches. She continues to be assertive and will mount other dogs while engaging in play. 2/08 update: Alta met another female through the gate and tensed her body. They were not introduced.
