09/18/2017 PET PROFILE MEMO
09/18/17 15:21 Basic Information: Alpha is a black and tan male, with no known health issues or injuries. He has not seen a vet recently and came in unaltered. Socialization: Alpha alert barks when guests enter the home, but after a few minutes he will approach to sniff and then stops barking. he has spent time with young children and had no reported incidetns, and was playful with him. He has lived with another small, male dog, and is very playful with him. The other dog was older and did not like to play, so Alpha was the initiator of most interactions. He has not spent time with cats. Behavior; Alpha plays exuberant with people and animals, and has a high energy. He has one bite incident due to resource guarding behaviors. He is not bothered by loud noises. Alpha does guard food and treats, and sometimes items as well. He will growl and snap if someone tries to take away and item he is not supposed to have such as the owners shoe. He allows for handling and bathing, but will pull his paw away when his owner tries to clip his nails. For a new family to know: Alpha likes to follow his owners around the home and plays with all kinds of toys. He likes to pull apart and destroy toys so he will need some indestructable ones. He eats dry food, has been an indoor dog, and is house trained to go outside on cement. When left alone he needs to be crated as he will destroy household items. He knows the commands sit and likes to run for exercise. Behavior during intake: Alpha kept his tail under his body but allowed for handling.

RECOMMENDATIONS: New Hope Only _X_No children (under 13) _X_Place with a New Hope partner- Due to the warning and distance-increasing behaviors shown in the care center, as well as Alpha’s bite history, we recommend placement with a New Hope partner who can provide force free behavior modification. Potential challenges: _X_Resource guarding- Potential resource guarding was noted in the previous home as Alpha was observed to growl and snap when engaged with items. For this reason, we advise against ever removing items from Alpha’s possession without safely trading for an item or greater or equal value. Guidance from a professional trainer/behaviorist is highly recommended to aid in safely managing/modifying this behavior in a new home environment. _X_Fearful- The behavior department recommends allowing Alpha to approach him potential new adopters at his own pace. Force-free, reward based training is advised when introducing/exposing Alpha to new and unfamiliar situations.
