08/11/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Ali is a 10 year old dog surrendered to the our care centers. According to the owner, Ali is friendly, outgoing and plays exuberantly with adults. It is said that Ali has lived with other dogs and a cat, and was playful and relaxed. His profile also notes that he has never bitten another person or animal. His owner reports no behavior issues aside from growling if someone touches his food or bowl while he is eating. Overall, his owner describes him as friendly, affectionate, playful and confident with a medium activity level. Upon approaching his kennel Ali displays a loose body posture, seemingly friendly and solicitous. Ali walked well on leash, approaching the handler soliciting attention. When entering the SAFER room he continued displaying soft, loose and appropriate body language. He continued to solicit attention from the handler and assessor, displaying zero concern. This behavior was consistent all through the Look and Sensitivity portions of the assessment. When the Tag portion of the evaluation begun, Ali appeared as though he was starting to engage in the game but quickly and suddenly began to agress as his arousal level reached it’s threshold. Ali actively started to lunge and vocalize towards the assesor, displaying highly concerning behavior as his sole focus was towards the assessor with intent to bite/harm. Upon handler intervention, Ali was moved away from the assessor but continued to pull hard towards her as well as vocalize, recovery being hard to achieve. Ali was removed from the room immediately and placed back into his kennel.Due to the alarming behavior demonstrated and concern for safety, the assessment was ended at this point. Ali’s threshold for arousal is low and his escalation rapid, so we recommend placement with a New Hope partner who can provide an experienced foster home and consultation with a behaviorist to address safety concerns before placement into an adoptive home.
08/11/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
