09/18/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Alfino came into our center as a stray so behaviors in the home are unknown. He was nervous upon entering the center, hesitant to walk on leash and required being picked up. Alfino is difficult to remove from his kennel; barking, snapping and grabbing the leash. Once out of kennel, he will not walk on leash and has been observed to snap if handler approaches face or head. Because Alfino does not tolerate direct approach/touch, the behavior department believes he is not an appropriate candidate for an assessment at this time. Placement with a New Hope rescue partner would benefit Alfino best. We cannot with much confidence predict how his behavior will be in a future home; he does present a bite risk if not handled carefully and appropriately. Force-free, reward based training is advised when introducing or exposing Alfino to new and unfamiliar situations/stimuli.
