02/24/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Handsome AJ is the silent, sensitive type, and though he’s a bit timid in his den and needs some coaxing to come out, this good boy leashes up nicely, and then it’s all paws on deck as he pulls for the freedom of the yard–someone knows how fun outdoors can be! He takes care of his business promptly, mouths treats softly and allows gentle petting with no trouble, and though he walks low and fast at first, the more time he spends outside, the calmer AJ becomes. Other dogs are met with polite good manners and a healthy dose of curiosity, and I’ll bet with more doggie playtime (or even a sibling or two!) this shy guy will soon learn to smile again. Come in to the Manhattan Care Center and enjoy a date with one of our most eligible doggie bachelors. AJ’s scored high in his behavior assessment and he’s ready to head home whenever you are!
02/23/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
AJ was a bit shy in the kennel but once he come out AJ pulls a bit on the leash. He was sociable toward the handler during the assessment – soft body. He was calm and relaxed during handling. AJ was distracted, focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag test. He was not interested in toys. AJ did not show any concern during the behavior assessment. The behavior department feels that he can go to an Average home. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (may need coaxing to approach.) He is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Toy: 1. No interest.
02/23/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
When off leash with other dogs, AJ offers a few bows and is soft bodied when engaging with the female helper. He stiffens and lip curls at a male in the adjacent pen. The behavior department recommends a pre-adoption interaction for AJ before placement into a home with anothr dog at this time. He arrived as a stray so in home behaviors with dogs are unknown.
