09/10/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: I was warned about Aemilia–that she pulls on the leash. And she does, until she does not pull anymore…and rests comfortably tucked against my chest, flooded with kisses and giving back more than what she gets. She is a very affectionate gal. I bet you can tell that I really like her. Aemilia is a good girl we do not know much about. Based on what we see here at the care center, she is an active and energetic female who does not belong to a kennel. She loves company and the outdoors or probably simply a home where she could roam, free. She is very sociable and friendly and, I bet, quite playful. I wish we had a yard to test her skills with a ball or a frisbee. She can sit on command and takes treats gently from my hand. She nears without fuss other dogs big and small. She does her business at once as we hit the street. Aemilia is simply a nice dog with lively eyes, rabbit’s ears and a big heart. She will make, I am pretty sure, a very good pet and a loyal and loving friend forever. Come and meet her at the Manhattan Care Center. Aemilia is waiting for you.
09/04/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Aemilia came to the care center as a stray so her behavior in a home is unknown. For her relief walk, Aemilia pulled a bit. Aemilia jumped up affectionately on the assessor upon entering the SAFER assessment room. She displayed high energy and movement during positioning of Look item, pulled out of assessor’s hands on all three attempts. Aemilia leaned into assessor during Sensitivity item, open mouth, ears back. She ran and jumped playfully during Tag game, grabbed leash to tug at end of game, but let go easily when assessor did not engage in tug play. Aemilia pulled back her paw on both Squeeze attempts. She kept a firm grip on Toy, body not stiff. The Behavior Team feels Aemilia would do well with an Average adopter. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft or squinty, soft and loose body, open mouth. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Or dog indicates play with huffing, soft ‘popping’ of the body, etc. Dog might jump on Assessor once play begins. Squeeze 1/2: 2. Dog pulls back paw Toy 1: 2. Dog keeps a firm grip, not stiff Playgroup notes: When introduced off leash to another dog in the care center, Aemilia displays appeasement behaviors when greeting, low body, muzzle licking. She then begins to intently sniff the greeter dog, and begins to mount him. She arrived into our care as a stray, so there is no available history of previous interaction with other dogs, and it is unknown how her behavior will translate into a home setting.

09/04/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
9/04: When introduced off leash to another dog in the care center, Aemilia displays appeasement behaviors when greeting, low body, muzzle licking. She then begins to intently sniff the greeter dog, and begins to mount him. She arrived into our care as a stray, so there is no available history of previous interaction with other dogs, and it is unknown how her behavior will translate into a home setting. She should require in-depth pre-adoption interaction and slow introductions with any resiedent dogs in a future home.
