A volunteer writes: Those ears!! When I met Adidas I couldn’t help but notice his inappropriately large ears which make him…irresistibly cute :). But his charm is what really sold me. After leashing him up, we head for the yard where he showers me with kisses and hugs. Adidas is a big playful boy who would do well in an active home where he can hone his fetching skills and stretch his long legs. If you’re interested in adopting Adidas, please come to the Care Center to meet him.
07/19/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: None Date of intake 7/16/2017 Unaltered male, stray Other notes: When coming out of Finder’s car, Adidas fled and ran down the street. He was easily leashed to return to the center. SAFER ASSESSMENT: Date of assessment 7/19/2017 Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted, with tail wagging and ears back. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture, mouth closed Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft, lightly jumps on assessor at end of game. Squeeze 1 / 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are relaxed Toy 1: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip, body soft. He does not place his body between you and the toy Summary: No concerns were seen during the handling assessment. PLAYGROUP: When greeting a social female, Adidas was quite vocal and eager at the gate. Adidas rushes in to greet and instantly positions to mount. He did not respond to any corrections and was persistent, the interaction was ended. INTAKE BEHAVIOR Date of intake 7/16/2017 During intake, Adidas allowed all handling. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: Date of initial 7/16/2017 During his initial medical exam, Adidas allowed all handling. ENERGY LEVEL: We have no history on Adidas so we cannot be certain of his behavior in a home environment. In the care center, Adidas displays as having high energy. He will require daily mental and physical activity to keep him engaged and exercised. We recommend food puzzles along with daily walks, runs, exercise, and play to positively direct his energy and enthusiasm.
RECOMMENDATIONS: Experience (suitable for an adopter with some previous dog experience, especially in the behavior outlined below) _X_No young children (under 5) – Due to behavior seen in the care center while in kennel, we feel that Adidas may be intimidating to young children. Older children can be considered pending an in depth interaction. Potential challenges: _X_Strength/leash pulling – Adidas will pull on leash. His adopter must be prepared and able to handle a dog of this size and strength. It is recommended that he be walked on a front clip harness or head halter, which help diminish his strength through leverage, and that he be trained using positive reinforcement, reward based training to not pull on leash. _X_Kennel presence – Adidas is reluctant and difficult to return to kennel. In kennel, he may bark and jump toward fingers, most likely due to frustration. While we cannot be certain if this behavior will appear in any other contexts, in highly emotionally charged or stressful environments Adidas may show behavior similar to what he is currently demonstrating in his kennel.
