A volunteer writes: Did you ever meet someone and think, nice person, nice looking…and the more time you spent with them the more amazing that person became? That’s my story with Ace. I’m head over heels with this terrific dog, and it really didn’t take long for me to realize how appropriate his name is….Excellent, outstanding, first rate – google it and you’ll see how many superlatives are used to define Ace. Great on leash, checks up often as we walk, likely housetrained, snuggly, beautifully groomed, perfect weight for his size, sits and shakes paw, takes treats gently, super sweet and loving, and even tried to kiss the assessor during his behavior exam! He has a wonderful energy, and is so well behaved, showing me how well he listens and responds – he’s a joy! In the park he ignored other dogs we passed, gives stand up hugs and lots of kisses. I’m in love and know you will be too when you come meet him. Ace is not just another handsome tan face…there’s an outstanding, smart and affectionate lifetime companion here just waiting to meet you. Come today to meet him…..the line forms on the left 🙂
08/18/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Ace came to the care center as an owner surrender on 8/16/16. Owner reported that Ace lived with two cats and was playful with them and that he is not bothered if his treats or toys are touched. He reportedly knows the cues sit and down. During intake, Ace tolerated all handling. On his relief walk he pulled a little and jumped on the handler. When in the assessment room, Ace displayed a high level of energy, jumping on the people. He was wiggly and jumped on the assessor to lick her face during Look. He leaned in during Sensitivity, and displayed high energy to get closer to the assessor, tail wagging and body soft. For Tag he was distracted but followed, jumping twice on the assessor hard. He was wiggly for Squeeze and difficult to position. On both attempts he gently put his mouth on the assessor’s hand and licked the assessor and for the second attempt he moved his body away. He displayed minimal interest in Toy, sniffing it. When introduced off leash to another dog in the care center, Ace greets politely, however quickly becomes intent on mounting. Due to his jumping and mouthing, the Behavior Team recommends Ace be placed in an Experienced home with no young children. He would benefit from an in depth interaction with any older children in the home and from positive reinforcement training. Ace will need daily physical exercise, such as walks and runs, and mental stimulation, such as Kongs and other puzzle toys. Look: 1. Dog leans forward or jumps up to lick the Assessor’s face with tail wagging, ears back and eyes averted. Sensitivity: 2. Dog displays high energy and movement, but it is directed toward getting closer to the Assessor. Her body is soft, panting, jumps up between attempts to lick Assessor. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, is distracted. Jumps up hard on the assessor. Squeeze 1: 2. Dog gently places her open mouth over the Assessor’s hand without applying pressure. Squeeze 2: 3. Dog is soft in body and eye, and moves her legs/body so that the Assessor is unable to hold the paw. Toy 1. Minimal interest. Dog sniffs. Dog to Dog: When introduced off leash to another dog in the care center, Ace greets politely, however quickly becomes intent on mounting.
08/17/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
8/16: When introduced off leash to another dog in the care center, Ace greets politely – however quickly becomes sexually motivated, and more intent on mounting. It can be taken into consideration that Ace is currently unaltered. The behavior team feels that Ace should require a pre adoption interaction to ensure compatability with any potential future resident dogs. Ace arrived into our care as a stray, so there is no available history of previous interaction with other dogs, and it is unknown how his behavior will translate into a home setting.
