04/30/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
Ace A1072066 is a 3yr old neutered male white & gray Siberian Husky who was purchased at a breeder 3yrs ago and is being surrendered due to his unpredictability. He was last seen by a veterinarian in Sept 2015 and currently has no known health issues/injuries. Socialization: Around strangers Ace is shy for a few minutes and might snap (has not made physical contact with anyone) if given too much attention. He’s lived/spent time with children ages ranging from toddler-teens and was gentle, exuberant, playful with them also the adults in the home & his older female Pitbull neighbor bff. However the owner stated they haven’t allowed interaction with him and the younger children due to Ace’s unpredictable “mood swings”. A few weeks ago Ace snapped at his owner’s mother when she was attempting to put his harness on (the nip did not break skin or bleed), he also had a “scuffle” with a stray cat but the cat ran off (the owner stated the cat got too close and scared Ace, also that the incident didn’t result in any injuries on either part). Behavior: Ace doesn’t like to be bothered while he’s with or near his food/food bowl, toys/treats. He isn’t allowed on the furniture. Ace enjoys being brushed & hasn’t been disturbed while sleeping/resting. For bath time Ace will whine (but loves to swim and drink water). He isn’t bothered with having his nails trimmed. If someone approaches the home/family member Ace will bark. The owner also stated Ace doesn’t like when the family is affectionate with each other or in a group. He will become agitated and will bark, growl and nip at the family. Ace also listens when he wants to & is very treat motivated. For A New Family to Know: Ace is friendly (at times), affectionate (at times), playful, confident, excitable & independent with a very high activity level. The owner likes how handsome he is. Ace enjoys playing, squeaky toys and games of fetch & tag. Ace is mostly an indoor dog who sleeps in the kitchen & is walked 2x a day where he pulls lightly on his leash. Ace eats dry Blue Buffalo 2x a day and is given human food at times. Ace loves anything peanut butter, he chews ice and when it’s snowing outside he doesn’t want to come into the home. He is house broken, is well behaved when left home alone & in the yard. Ace’s known commands are sit, stay, wait, eat/drink & no. Ace allowed handling due to the owner being present. They assisted with collaring, pictures and placing him into a kennel.

Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Ace was difficult to remove from his kennel showing teeth, growling and lunges at the rope. He did not show any social behavior. Once Ace was out of the kennel he stands tall and makes direct eye contact. Ace was growling loudly expose his front teeth, grabbing at the leash and preparing to lunge forward to the handler. We behavior team decided to place him back in his kennel he was difficult to handle. Due to the behavior demonstrated in the shelter the behavior department believes that Ace is not an appropriate candidate for SAFER. Ace was surrender to us. Ace The behavior department feels that he would do best if placed with a New Hope partner who can follow up on this behavior in a more stable environment and can provide any necessary behavior modification before placement into a permanent home.
