ACC’S “AT RISK” FB PAGE & WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT IT

Urgent - Info

| Next

**PLEASE READ**

When Urgent was started, things were very different. The NYC ACC sent an EMAIL to New Hope Partners, showing all the animals that were at risk of dying at 6AM the following morning. They warned that it could not be shared or the New Hope Partner could lose their ability to take animals. EVERYTHING was a secret. If an animal died, they would just say that the file was closed. Very few, if ANY, knew that the ACC was a “kill shelter.” I know I didn’t.

Fast forward to 2018. Though not perfect, the ACC has made great strides in alerting the public to “at-risk” animals They now post all animals on their new website, and allow the public to see ALL animals listed, not just the ones available to the public. They started posting status of animals, including the ones that didn’t make it out alive. They post multiple pictures, videos, and bios. Not just the one horrible “intake photo” with the infamous noose around the animal’s neck. They changed the “deadline” to 12PM so that humans would be there to help facilitate the last minute pulls.

After many months of discussion, starting TODAY, the NYC ACC will now be posting ALL animals to a new Facebook page, dedicated to the animals on the list that night. They are finally doing what we have wanted them to do all along.

You can find the dogs and cats here: https://www.facebook.com/ACC.OfficialAtRiskAnimals/

We ask that you go to their page, LIKE it, and share the animals DIRECTLY FROM THEIR SITE. We were assured that all information would be posted, and the albums would not be deleted. As status becomes available, we were promised that the animal’s post would be updated. Everyone will know the outcomes of all animals on the list.

One thing we IMPLORE everyone to do is – BE RESPECTFUL. If you post the comments we see all over Facebook (murderers, I hope you die…) you will just force the shelter to reconsider what they are doing. Work WITH them to make sure that ALL animals are known and have every chance to make it out alive. This page is new, and as we all know at Urgent, change can be difficult, and new procedures take time to perfect. BE PATIENT. We are sure there will be kinks and We are hopeful they will be worked out.

When Urgent was started, we began posting the list because no one else was. We said that we would continue to post it until the ACC made the nightly list available to all. That is what they are attempting to do. So, as long as THEY are posting the list to social media, we feel that posting elsewhere would just cause confusion along with multiple threads where offers to foster/adopt/donate could get lost. That is why we are asking everyone to SHARE the official ACC posts, and not the posts from the 45675435 other Facebook pages. Just try it and give it a chance.

One thing that needs to be said…over the years, we have seen the harm that people with “good intentions” cause and it has made us question if we are really helping. Yes – many make it out, but how many are “lost” due to irresponsible adoptions/pulls? Be smart. Know your limitations, and then do what you can to HELP, not hurt these animals.

After YEARS of spending almost every day, glued to our computers at 6PM, the volunteers at Urgent will be taking a much needed rest to regroup and refocus. We will continue to push for change in NYC and we will still be advocating for NYC’s homeless animals. We will just be doing it on a broader scale and not chasing our tails trying to post “the list” every night. We will shift focus to disease, spay/neuter issues, proper placement, training and vetting as well as highlighting animals at the shelter that need some extra help…. all the things everyone knows is broken yet no one can seem to fix.

That said, if the ACC stops posting, or starts taking steps backwards, we will be back – for the homeless animals at risk of dying in NYC.

Their “At Risk” website can be found here: https://newhope.shelterbuddy.com/

At over all: thank you for being the thorn in Accs back, it obviously helped 😉

How will a “rescue only” dog get saved? Sending people to a list of the New Hope partners with an asterisk after their name that they are accepting applications? How would anyone know which rescues are in their area? I don’t recognize any of those rescues as having pulled dogs from the euth list – they are not even links to the rescue(!), it’s just a list.

You can do the New Hope partners saves just as before. Do not let the statement “Sorry, this dog is for New Hope partners only” misguide you. It is a mistatement, either accidental or more likely deliberate, that can mislead us. Proceed as you have before. Urgent 2 people pop up regularly
on the thread for EACH dog with guidelines.

Great question! And will the Super Urgent folder continue to be updated or monitored?? I saw 2 new ones pop in the Super Urgent today but the ones from last night to today’s TBD were still in there. The Super Urgent folder also has 20+ dogs in it who, according to other sites, have been saved.
So yes, will the “Safe”, “Gone” and “Super Urgent” folders continue to be updated or monitored?

It’s a shame..I have been seeing new people joining daily with pledges..It’s a much warmer environment here, where people can express themselves, and at times get their frustrations out..How can you not, after all the bad things ACC does to these dogs..That can not be expressed on their site..They will just kick you off if they don’t like whats being said.. Twitter..you cannot say much..Your suppose to keep it short…I hoped they could at least update the Urgent and super Urgent dogs here..

Janet, Dawn, and everyone FB is a pain, but if you just try it…those pets need your support. You can set up Facebook easily and not have to answer all the questions they want you to divulge. And use it just for AC. Hope to see you there for the time being, anyways. Look at it as an opportunity to educate others. When you share you can comment. Best to pledge o NYCACC unless the rescues monitor other fb sites. Does any one know? Also lets AC know, too.

This feels like one step forward (?) two steps back. I’m a new comer to this but something doesn’t feel right. I was amazed at the volunteer hours I assumed were going into this and give a standing ovation to everyone who has worked so hard. I never liked the negative comments because we have to believe and hope that the ACC staff is doing their best. I don’t think anyone aspires to euth animals and chiding them doesn’t seem fair. But knowledge is power and we seem to have lost power here. Bottom line, I and others are less likely to support and advocate if this system isn’t user friendly and/or perceived as nottrustworthy.

I read tonight that shelters all over the country are pulling pitbulls and shepherd dogs to train into police dogs! I did not have details but alot of the dogs I NYC SHETERS could be pulled by rescues to be police dogs. Just have to find out the details. It serves a purpose and is much more humane than euthanizing all these dogs.

Thank you so very much for your efforts! I have lost sleep over the sweet scared kitties and amazing looking dogs for years. I’m sorry for the comments, but from this side it’s extremely frustrating and it seemed as if no cared. We just wanted them to have a good chance at a forever home and to be treated well while they were there. My hope is that one day soon a good solution will be found so that none will have to be euthanized. That’s the ultimate goal. Thank you for your hard work and for caring!

All I have been seeing here is complaints..Now they are asking people not to comment..I understand when something new comes along, the bugs have to be worked out..The old system should have been kept until the bugs can be worked out..It doesn’t help the dogs, nor does it help to keep things from the public what bad things ACC is doing to these dogs..like purposely giving them kennel cough so they can be added to the destroy list, and how their favorites get many times on the destroy list until adopted, and many don’t even get one chance.. What about mistakes found in the notes..how is that going to be brought to peoples attention, when no commenting allowed?.. Sorry.. please tell me again how this new change is suppose to help these pups?

I hate to be negative, but I really dislike the tiny new format, the mistakes, and the censorship. Simply put: The ACC doesn’t have a watchdog anymore. Urgent’s way was so much better. The clean format, the info in folders, everything. Thanks to all the volunteers who gave their time and made it happen for many years.

Do we know yet if Urgent is going to continue updating other folders (Safe, Gone, Super Urgent)???? It seems the totals in those folders have not changed in 3-4 days. Plus Super Urgent still has at least 15+ dogs in it that are safe and sweet Otto is still TBD Unknown despite being safe too. If nothing is getting updated here and we’re using Facebook only now, then all the folders should be shut down or noted that they are not being updated to avoid confusion of which dogs need help and which don’t. I’m going to put what I know on each individual dog’s thread even at the risk of being deleted (because I have been multiple times) so people get some info.

Janet, Hachi is ok. He’s off the list so he must be either reserved or adopted. Unfortunately, so far there is nothing or no one for Kenya. There are lots of pledges and volunteer Evelyne posted the sweetest video of Kenya and said she is much calmer and much improved. I am very, very afraid for her. We all know that ACC just loves to kill a dog with a homeless owner. So far, there are no updates for her on ACC’s At Risk page and another Facebook page which is very reliable. This new system is devious in every way. DON’T BUY IT! I cannot find the individual profiles on each dog on the TBD LIST! There have been 13 dogs on the GONE LIST for 3 or 4 days now. Does that mean they have not killed anymore?? I do not believe that! They are listing 1 dog at a time every few days on the GONE LIST. They are hiding things but they still want pledges & donations!! HA WHY BOTHER?? You really don’t know where its going anyway. They want to make it harder to help the dogs, then the people advocating and pledging should make it harder!

There have been 13 dogs on GONE LIST for the past 4 or 5 days. ROYAL was the last dog posted. So the ACC now kills one dog every few days?? Do they really think they can hide their killing sprees behind this bill shot website?? They have gotten so much BACKLASH from everyone that they changed the website so the GOING ONS are obscure and you will just be guessing the status of many dogs! YOU ARE NO KIDDING ANY BODY ACC & DEPT. OF HEALTH! WE WILL PUSH BACK EVEN STRONGER, JUST YOU WAIT!
