A volunteer writes: If I had to describe Abel in one word, it would be meaty. And that’s a compliment! He’s so deliciously stocky, his head his giant, his lips are droopy and big enough to grab on to, and his adorable Chiclet teeth poke through in the goofiest smile around. Arriving with his buddy Cain, he was surrendered because his owners are moving and are not able to take them with him. He has lived with 4 other dogs, and 2 cats, all of whom he got along well with. He has even lived with 4 small children. His favorite thing to do is wrestle with Cain and chew on his bones. He’s hard to miss and has easily garnered the attentions of both staff and volunteers. He will sit on command (especially for treats), seems housebroken and is dog friendly. He’s a big boy, so sometimes he pulls on the leash, but you can’t blame a boy for wanting to get outside and smell the fresh air! Abel is waiting for a new family to call his own at the Brooklyn Care Center today!
A staff member writes: Abel is the goof ball of all goof balls. He loves to rub against you whenever you give him attention and never understands how big he really is. He is very friendly with strangers and is always willing to please whoever is around. His previous home was filled with five dogs and two cats plus children ranging from newborn to a six year old and he did well with all. Your present is good enough for him but he wouldn’t mind some treats and toys to toss around. Come into Brooklyn ACC and meet Abel and his goofy personality.

They will stay next to him. They will use the bathroom outdoors but will have an accident outdoors if they are not taken outside at their normal time. They also are let out to play in the fenced in backyard. They are well behaved in and outdoors.

Behavior – Average Home
Abel previously lived with 2 adults, 5 dogs and 4 children that ages range from newborns to 6 years old. The owner stated Abel is relaxed and playful around the children and the other dogs in the household. The owner mentioned Abel is house broken and well behaved when home alone. It was reported by the owner Abel lived with a cat and he would lick and cuddle with the cat.
At intake it was reported Abel was calm but panting, he allowed all handling. During SAFER Abel came into the assessment room calm and relaxed, he was friendly and social towards the assessor, allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Abel was relaxed during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment Abel was easy to handle when engaged with the item. Abel appears to be sociable, and did not display any behaviors concerns, so the department feels he can be suitable for an “Average” adopter.
