Minnie
Hello, my name is Minnie. My animal id is #11368. I am a desexed female black dog at the Staten Island Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 9 years old.
I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 01-Nov-2017, with the surrender reason stated as person circumstance- moving – out of country.
Minnie 11368 is at risk for behavior concerns (New Hope Only behavior determination) as well as medical concerns. Behaviorally Minnie has been timid but social with caretakers, but uncomfortable with being picked up. Her discomfort may be related to her medical concerns. Minnie has cataracts and difficulty seeing. She also has a mass on her sternum that would need further diagnostics.

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:: NEW HOPE ONLY
Behavior Asilomar: TM – Treatable-Manageable
Recommendations:: No young children (under 5),Place with a New Hope partner
Recommendations comments:: Minnie appears uncomfortable with handling in various areas on her body. We feel younger children may not be able to adhere to her appropriate warning signals when she is uncomfortable. She will benefit from a calm, quiet, structured environment. Older, dog savvy children may be considered pending an in-depth interaction. The behavior department believes Minnie would benefit best from placement with a New Hope Rescue who can meet her needs medically in a stable environment.
Potential challenges: : Resource guarding,Handling/touch sensitivity
Potential challenges comments:: Owner reports Minnie may growl when her food bowl is approached while she is eating. We recommend leaving Minnie alone while she is eating and never attempt to take anything from her mouth, always trade up for something else of higher value, such as a quick bite treat. Handling/touch sensitivity- Minnie has responded with warnings of discomfort during certain handling, including being picked up. It is important to be cautious when touching her in other areas as we do not know where she may have other sensitivities.
