08/26/17 14:34 Basic Information: King is 1.5 year old large breed dog. Unfortunately, the previous owner had to him due to not having enough money to take care of him. Socialization: King is very friendly with strangers and is relaxed and playful with adults and children. King may play a bit rough with children.King has only been around his brother Bobo and they play well together but previous owner is unsure how he will be around other dogs. He will bark at other dogs that pass the yard he is in. He has never been around cats in the home but when seeing them in the street he will try to chase them or bark at them. Behavior: King isnt bothered during fireworks or thunderstorms. He is ok with having food, treats, and toys taken away from him. He is ok with being held or restrained and doesnt mind being disturbed while sleeping. He has never had his nails trimmed but he is afraid of baths and will try to run away from them. He doesn’t mind strangers coming towards the home or owner. For a new family to know: King is a friendly, affectionate, playful, confident, and independent dog. He has a medium activity level. King will follow you around. King is mostly an outdoor dog and come in at night. He has his own dog bed in the basement. He eats Purina dry food. He is potty trained and never has accidents. He will use either the cement or grass to use the bathroom. He is well behaved when left alone in the yard and in the home. He knows how to sit, stay, come, down, and may learn more. He plays in the yard for exercise. He hasnt been walked on a leash too often so he will pull hard. Off leash he will wander but come when called. During Intake: He allowed all handling and was receptive to petting. He had a loose body and waggy tail.

IN SHELTER OBSERVATIONS: At the care center King has been social with handlers outside of his kennel, enjoying petting and walks and allows all handling. He can be initially aloof but will warm up with handlers that take him outside and engage with him. He has shown an affinitiy for outdoor walks as enrichment rather than in kennel enrichment. He may engage with toys and treats, but is better stimulated by walks and attention from handlers. RECOMMENDATIONS: Experience (suitable for an adopter with some previous dog experience, especially with behaviors outlined below) X No cats Potential challenges: _X_Kennel presence: King appears frantic in his kennel, barking and attempting to push his way out. While we cannot be certain if this behavior will appear in any other contexts, in highly emotionally charged or stressful environments King may show behavior similar to what he is currently demonstrating in his kennel.
