05/09/2017 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Goldfinger certainly has the Midas touch when it comes to drawing a crowd and during our photo shoot her elfin ears and honeyed coat act like a beacon for admiring awwws and look-how-cute smiles from passerbys. Goldie (c’mon, she’s no supervillain!) is a petite girl but she packs a lot of personality into her tiny frame and definitely knows what she likes (treats, kisses, other dogs) and what she doesn’t (being tethered, slow walkers, girly scarves) and isn’t shy about making the difference clear. Heading to the park is a surefire way to get that little tail wagging and a harness keeps us both at a reasonable pace as she takes care of her business and stops to sniff all the interesting smells and greet other pups along the way. Goldie can be a bit timid at times but in her heart of hearts all she really wants is to make friends and spread the love. A quiet yet active home where she can relax into her social comfort zone would be a great first step toward her happily ever after ending. Could your family fit the bill? Ask to meet Goldie today and discover this shining star for yourself!

Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: None Date of Intake Unaltered Female, Stray SAFER ASSESSMENT: 5/7/17 Look: 2. Dog’s eyes are averted. Her body posture is a bit tense, her tail is low and not moving. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, her tail is down, body tense, mouth closed. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body low and a bit fearful. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Toy: 1. No interest. Summary: Goldfinger appeared a bit fearful at time during her assessment, backing away from the assessor. However, she also showed social behavior towards the assessor and solicited attention at times. She allowed all handling. DOG-DOG INTERACTION ASSESSMENT: Summary PLAYGROUP: 5/8: When introduced off leash to the male greeter dog Goldfinger is tolerant of continuous play solicitation. She engages in small bouts of play, then otherwise roams, keeps to herself while checking in occasionally. The behavior department recommends slow introductions between Goldfinger and respectful dogs. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 5/5/17 During her initial medical exam, Goldfinger was tense but allowed handling. ENERGY LEVEL: We have no history on Goldfinger so we cannot be certain of her behavior in a home environment. However, she is a young, enthusiastic, social dog who will need daily mental and physical activity to keep her engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in additional to physical exercise, to positively direct her energy and enthusiasm. RECOMMENDATIONS: Experience (suitable for an adopter with some previous dog experience, especially with behaviors outlined below) Potential challenges: _X_Fearful: Though observed to be human-social, Goldfinger may need time to warm up to the handler as she initially presents as a fearful dog, avoiding contact, shying away from direct touch. We recommend allowing Goldfinger to interact at her own pace. Force-free, reward based training is recommended.
