02/16/17 15:09 Tyson D was very hyper upon intake. He allowed all handling, but was very excited!
WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: This playful, happy, puppylike young man can’t help but draw passers by in with his youthful energy. Tyson D is not only handsome (his long white front legs make it look like he’s wearing gloves) but appears to be housetrained and is very affectionate (he leaned up to kiss me while I was picking up his poop on our walk today– gee, thanks, Tyson D!). Tyson does gets excited easily (there’s some of that puppylike behavior for you!) and tries to play with his leash, but he does listen to his handler and is gentle even when he gets mouthy. Tyson would do great with an experienced adopter who can give him the structure, exercise, and love that he needs. Come and see this fun, happy, and beautiful boy at the BACC today!
02/19/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: None 2/16/17 Unaltered male, Stray SAFER ASSESSMENT: 2/17/17 Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture, anxious and whines. Dog’s mouth is open for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, bit distracted. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Toy 1: 1. Dog settles down close to chew, will relinquish toy to you. Summary: Tyson D was friendly, and sociable towards the assessor though remained fairly anxious, whining and attempting to grab and tug at the leash though his body remained soft. DOG-DOG INTERACTION ASSESSMENT: Summary PLAYGROUP: Tyson D was surrendered as a stray so his past behavior around other dogs is unknown. When off leash with dogs at the Care Center, Tyson D displays sexually motivated body language -standing tall with a high vibrating tail while whining- when greeting a novel female dog. Once in the pen he continually attempts to mount the female dog, persisting after the handler’s interrupt. He is unable to cease his mounting behavior and the session is ended. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 2/16/17 Tyson D allowed all handling during his initial medical examination. ENERGY LEVEL: In the care center Tyson D has been active and enthusiastic. He may need some guidance to learn how to appropriately channel that energy when he becomes overstimulated. Tyson D will need daily mental and physical stimulation and exercise, and a force-free, positive reinforcement-based training class may help him to learn impulse control and to train desirable behaviors that can be rewarded. RECOMMENDATIONS: Experience (Suitable for an adopter with some previous dog experience). Potential challenges: _X_Anxiety: Tyson D has shown some signs of potential anxiety in the care center, vocalizing (whining) and we cannot be certain if any other behavior is suppressed at a result of this environment. Force-free, reward based training is advised when introducing/exposing Tyson D to new and unfamiliar situations.
